Enjoy a treat and raise funds for PIMIL
rice bread
Given the “new norm” of responding in creative ways of our normal routines, PIMIL – Partners-in-Ministry-in-Liberia – invites you to virtually participate and support our annual July fundraising by making Liberian Rice Bread at home. As with many things this year, our annual fundraising luncheon had to be canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic. Instead, we invite you to experience Liberia at home by baking Rice Bread.

The Rice Bread is like a dessert and is one of the many delicious foods usually served at the annual International Luncheon and Silent Auction, which is typically held in July in Columbus to raise funds for the education of the students in Liberia.

After baking your sweet treat, we hope you will also consider making a financial donation to PIMIL in any amount. We are working diligently to achieve our annual fundraising goal of $20,000.

Get the recipe for Rice Bread and learn how to donate to the work of PIMIL here .
Lay Preaching Ministry
If you, as a lay person, are feeling called to the ministry of preaching, talk with your rector or priest-in-charge. If you both agree this may be a ministry to consider then visit the diocesan website to learn more and find an application for the Lay Preaching Ministry.

It is expected that all lay preachers have taken the first two years of Education for Ministry (EFM) or something equivalent. Classes generally meet one Saturday a month from September through May.

For more information contact the Rev. Dr. Stephen Smith at  rector@pats-dublin.org .

146th Annual Convention news
Nominations and proposed resolutions or changes to the Constitution and Canons are now being accepted for the the 146th Annual Convention, scheduled for Saturday, November 7 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Zoom.

Other convention news:

  • Information about reporting the election of lay delegates is done on the Annual Reporting Form. Nearly 1/3 of our congregations have not yet filled out the form (which was due April 1), so we do not have accurate information to begin contacting delegates. Please fill out the form ASAP if it has not already been done.
  • Nomination forms and resolution submission forms are available on our convention site, DSOConvention.org. You can find a list of all the leadership positions that are up for election here.
  • All commissions that receive funds from the diocesan budget are expected to file an annual report to Convention. You can find the form to file the report here. The deadline to file is October 23.
  • A list of all notable dates and deadlines can be found on our convention site, DSOConvention.org.
  • Church delegations should begin talking now about which of their members may have trouble with participating in the Zoom pre-convention meeting and convention from lack of access to equipment or high speed internet. If any of your members have any challenges to full participation that you cannot work together to address, contact the bishop’s staff by clicking on the big red HELP button on the convention home page. Staff members will work one on one with any individual delegate to ensure their ability to participate.

Head on over to the 146th Convention primer over on DSOConnections.org to learn more about all things convention.
