Graduate Students Awarded the "Make the Most of the Dash" Scholarship
Jaclyn Keats, B.S., and Cassidy Howell, B.S., were awarded the 2022 “Make the Most of the Dash and Ashley Kaye Hess Changing Lives Scholarship.” The scholarship was founded in memory of Ashley Kaye Hess—a cheerleader, dancer, teacher, and NSU speech-language pathology master’s candidate— before she was killed in a tragic car accident on May 14, 2016, at the age of 28.
Veteran Credits Military Experience and NSU Education for Professional Success
Leonard Pounds, Ph.D. serves as the university's vice president of health and has generously given to the university and its programs supporting veterans. In his tenure at NSU he and his wife Isabelle Shick established a scholarship fund to help students who are veterans further their education. Pounds also helped make NSU's United States Armed Forces Service Flag Monument a reality.
Celebrating 40 Years of Athletics
The NSU athletics department recently unveiled a new anniversary logo to celebrate 40 years of action. The insignia will be worn as a commemorative patch on home uniforms during the upcoming school year.
Silky Sharks Just Keep Swimming
Silky sharks swim thousands of miles each year and are among the most heavily fished shark species in the Tropical Eastern Pacific. More needs to be done to protect this population, and a team of researchers, led by Mahmood Shivji, Ph.D., director of NSU's Guy Harvey Research Institute and Save Our Seas Foundation Shark Research Center, have launched a study to shine a light on these vulnerable creatures.
Medical Program Garners Media Attention
The NSU Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine hosted its AIM HIGH summer immersion program and was featured on WPLG Local 10. The camp provided an opportunity for high school students to have hands-on experience in numerous areas of health care.
