July is the perfect time to catch a glimpse of a hummingbird in your garden. As Monmouth County’s remaining forests and natural landscapes dwindle, so do hummingbird and other wildlife habitats.

You can do your part to attract hummingbirds in your yard with these three easy tips: Plant brightly colored, tube shaped flowers (especially red ones); don’t use pesticides or other chemicals in your garden; and mount a hummingbird feeder. You will enjoy the colors and the birds’ aerobatic skills.

As we continue to grapple with the Covid-19 pandemic challenges, simple pleasures of nature can offer comfort in these difficult times. To that end, I hope you find time this summer to smell the roses and enjoy the hummingbirds.

Sincerely,

P.S. Join us Saturday evening, September 26th for our Drive-In Movie Night Fundraiser at Bell Works in Holmdel. This not-to-be-missed event, a different approach from previous years, will allow us to stay safe, but still have fun and raise critical funds in support of our mission.
