COVID-19 UPDATE
While the Torah reading from the first day of Passover tells the story of our liberation from Egypt, the Torah reading for this Shabbat reminds us that additional challenges would still lie ahead for the Israelites. While no longer in Egypt, our ancestors still find themselves stuck between the approaching Egyptian army and the Sea of Reeds in front of them. This moment served as a reminder of the constant vigilance that would be required before they would truly be free.

As we find ourselves in the midst of this “third wave” of COVID, it is easy to become frustrated after all that we have done to get ourselves through the first two waves of this terrible disease. Every time we think we’re “out of the woods” a new spike arrives. Like our ancestors millennia ago, we must maintain our vigilance in these matters and do what is hard to keep everyone healthy and safe.

As such, and consistent with our board’s determination regarding lockdown/shutdown/grey zone, in-person indoor services will be on hold until the end of this shutdown. While we are currently exploring what may be possible outdoors in the coming weeks, for this weekend, we will be running services exclusively virtually. Day 7 services and Day 8 services (with Yizkor), will be at 9 am on our livestream (www.kehillatbethisrael.com/livestream). In addition to the Yizkor service that will take place during the morning service, we will also be running an "Only Yizkor" service over the live-stream from 11:15-11:30 am on Sunday for people who only wish to participate in Yizkor. We will provide further details regarding upcoming services next week. We appreciate your understanding in this matter as we continue to hold the value of Pikuach Nefesh, Saving Lives, at the forefront of our congregational values.

THE KBI CHORAL SHABBAT MA'ARIV VIRTUAL PROJECT
This week's video from Cantor Green contains the Chatzi Kaddish prior to the private recitation of the Shabbat Ma'ariv Amidah. The Chatzi Kaddish serves as a separation between parts of our services and praises God and God's great Name in an array of superlatives. It appears at the bottom of page 34 in the blue Sim Shalom Siddur for Shabbat and Festivals.
