Town Offices Closed Monday, July 5 for Independence Day Holiday; Trash/Recycling Collection Delayed
All non-emergency Town offices will be closed on Monday, July 5, for the Independence Day holiday.
 
  • Curbside trash/recycling collection will be on a 1 day delay all week - if your normal collection day is Monday, it will be Tuesday, July 6, etc.

  • There will be no public meetings or public hearings.

  • Cary Library is currently closed on Mondays.
Construction in Lexington Center Begins July 6
Substantial construction in Lexington Center is anticipated to begin on Tuesday, July 6.
 
The Center Streetscape Project is anticipated to take two construction seasons to complete.
 
We greatly appreciate the community's patience as we make a safer, brighter, and more accessible Lexington Center. It's important to remember that businesses in the Center will be open during construction!

Below are the details we sent out in the first Center Streetscape email update:
 
Construction Activity Week of July 5-9
Crews will begin installing underground drainage structures and pipes within the roadway, mostly toward the curb lines.

Crews will be working in the area of Depot Square for some of the days during the week of July 5-9 - please follow signage to access businesses and Lexpress bus service
 
 
Anticipated Traffic & Parking Impacts
Moderate traffic impacts are expected with crews working in the roadway.
 
Some on-street parking will be impacted in the areas where crews are installing drainage.
Lexington Farmers Market Accepts SNAP and EBT
The Lexington Farmers’ Market (LFM) is in full swing for a 17th season, now held at the new location at the Worthen Road Practice Field every Tuesday from 2-6:30 PM until the end of October.
 
The LFM welcomes customers using SNAP/ebt, and has a SNAP Match program up to $15 per market. In addition, the LFM hosts two farms that participate in the Healthy Incentives Program (HIP), along with farmers and vendors that accept Senior FMNP and Women/Infants/Children (WIC) FMNP coupons.

For more information on food access and how to tap into the LFM SNAP Match Program, shoppers can visit the Market Manager’s tent.
2021-22 Trash/Recycling Flyer Sent to Homes, Available Online
The Environmental Services Division recently sent out their 2021-22 trash and recycling flyer to each home in Lexington.

The flyer has information on when trash/recycling collection will be delayed due to holidays, as well as information on composting, textile recycling, and more.

Recreation Committee to Discuss Center Complex Restroom Feasibility Study on July 7
At the Recreation Committee's next meeting, they will be discussing the Center Recreation Restrooms and Maintenance Building, a capital improvement project. The Committee is looking for feedback on the feasibility study as the they move towards the next phase of the project.

About the Project
This capital project will support improvements to the Center Recreation Complex and overall Park system with access to safe, clean and accessible restrooms. 

This facility has not had significant renovations or upgrades in many years, while the use and demand for public restrooms increase.
