Dear Friends,

Peace to you on this Trinity Sunday, as we focus on the threeness and oneness of God and all creation. The doctrine of the Trinity has a reputation for being heady and disconnected from practical life, but it actually offers a profound word of hope to us in the turbulent time we're living through. This Sunday, we also have the joy of recognizing the hard work of our graduates. Congratulations to each one of them!

Below is a video link to our main worship service, along with an order of service. And then we also have the family worship service linked below, too, a shorter and more child-friendly opportunity. We hope they are inspiring and meaningful to you. Thanks to all who contributed!

You'll hear some announcements in the Common Life portion of the main service, but here is a link to a written version on our church website.

Hang in there, friends. We love you and we're praying for you.

With gratitude and hope in Christ,
Pastor Jeff

Welcome and Call to Worship
When creation bares its teeth, when evil seems to thrive, when we look around and feel small and afraid,
We worship.
When authorities stumble, when cries for justice go unheard, when violence erupts, when the way ahead looks more grim than hopeful,
We worship.
We worship because prayer and song give us courage.
We worship because Jesus goes before us in suffering love.
We worship because God calls us to be our brother's and sister's keeper.
We worship because the Spirit gives us the courage to be peacemakers.
Let us worship the triune God, tender and just.

Opening Hymn No. 1 (verses 1 & 4)
Holy, Holy, Holy

Call to Confession
When God looks at us, God who created us sees hope, joy, grace and life. But all too often, we see ourselves and others as broken, hurtful, sinful, not enough. Let us confess our words and deeds to the God who loves us and longs to repair the world right here and right now.

Prayer of Confession
Gracious and vulnerable God, our hearts are heavy after a week of protests and unrest and heartache in our city, our nation and this world you love. All of this on top of the pandemic we're living through. As disciples of Christ, we confess the things we've done and left undone that do not reflect your kingdom. We confess the things we've said and left unsaid that harm ourselves, our neighbors and your creation. We confess that we have been tired, disoriented, afraid and callous. We confess the sin of racism, the tendency toward violence, the belief that we are separate from you and superior to one another. Call us back to you and to one another. Center us in your love, your hope, your courage and your humility. Renew us for your service. In Christ's name we pray. Amen.

Assurance of Forgiveness
Lives that are chaotic become cradles of peace; hearts malformed by meanness are reshaped into goodness; souls filled with despair are cleansed with grace.
This is the good news: the God who created us is the same God who redeems us. Amen.

Sharing the Peace of Christ
The peace of Christ be with you.
And also with you!

Prayer of Great Thanksgiving
The Lord be with you. And also with you.
Lift up your hearts . We lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise.

The Lord's Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Communion of the People

Communion Music
The Spirit Intercedes for Us
The Spirit intercedes for us, with sighs too deep for words to express....

Prayer After Communion
God, in deep gratitude for this moment, this meal, these sisters and brothers, we give ourselves to you. Take us out as changed people because we have shared the living bread and cannot remain the same. Ask much of us, expect much from us, enable much by us, encourage many through us. Keep us on your paths of life this week, so that we might remember we are loved and never alone. Amen.

Call to Offering
On this Pentecost Sunday, we are invited to participate in the kingdom emerging all around us - to receive the promised Holy Spirit and the invitation to walk in newness of life. May we respond this morning with glad and generous hearts, freely giving our tithes and offerings to the ministry of this congregation. In lieu of passing the plate, we now offer four different ways to make your offering:  use our church website, our smartphone app, text the word "Wilmette" to the number 77977, or send a check by mail to the church office. As we gather our gifts together and offer them to God, may we do so in gratitude and praise.

Doxology -  LASST UNS ERFREUEN
Praise God from whom all blessings flow;
praise God all creatures here below;
Alleluia, Alleluia.
Praise God above, ye heavenly host;
praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia.

Prayer of Dedication
Gracious God, take these offerings of our lives - our time, our resources, our skills, our hopes for this weary world - and use them to bring heaven down to earth. May this offering today bless your church, your people, your creation. Amen.
