Kings Seeking New Treasurer
This week, the Kings Board of Education voted to accept the resignation of current Treasurer, Cary Furniss. Mr. Furniss has accepted a job at Kettering City Schools.

During his four year tenure, Mr. Furniss helped align the financial resources of the District to the #KingsStrong Strategic Plan, created a transparent system of financial reporting for the District, developed community confidence in the financial management of Kings Schools, and he and his team received the Auditor of State Award all four years.

The Board of Education will be appointing an interim treasurer at the December 14, 2021 Board meeting. The interim treasurer will serve until a permanent replacement is determined. The search for the next Treasurer at Kings has begun with the assistance of the Warren County Educational Service Center at no cost to the District.

We thank Mr. Furniss for his contributions to our great school District. We wish him and his family the very best.
Emergency Communication
The District conducted a test call of our all-call system on Thursday, December 9. If you did not receive the call, please contact Dawn Gould at dgould@kingslocal.net.

J.F. Burns Elementary had a special visitor last week. Pete LuPiba, Education Designee of the Military Interstate Children's Compact Commission and Representative for Ohio's Purple Star School Designation Program spent some time with Mrs. Montag and military-connected students, Jillian Macke and Solomon Redford.

He is visiting the 400 Purple Star schools across the state. JFB received the Ohio Purple Star designation in 2017 and was renewed in 2021. Purple Star Schools are those that are recognized for their commitment to serving students and families that are connected to the United States Armed Services and known as "Military Friendly Schools."

Mr. Lupiba presented Mrs. Montag and the students of JFB a new-minted Challenge Coin which is given to all Purple Star Schools for their support of the military.
Peach Jar
Exciting news! In an effort to provide increased access to programs and resources that improve the trajectory of our students' lives, the Kings Local School District is preparing to launch Peachjar. This new platform will enable us to send important school and community flyers to parents digitally which will save parents from searching the Virtual Backpack for information.

School-approved digital flyers will be sent to your email inbox where you can easily click to sign up for events and programs. You’ll receive a welcome email from Peachjar. No action is required to begin receiving this communication from your school.

To ensure you don’t miss notifications, we suggest you add school@peachjar.com to your email contacts and click “always display images” when you receive your first email.

Peachjar is used exclusively for the distribution of school-approved flyers only. Your email address will not be shared or used for any other purpose. We will launch this new platform during the Holiday Break.

There will be a new process for events/flyers to appear on our flyerboard. Users will need to register at peachjar.com as a program provider and upload their pdf flyer and select schools for distribution. There will be a nominal fee for organizations that are for profit. All non-profit organizations whose event is to directly benefit children and who are not charging a fee for the event may use Peachjar free of charge. Peachjar’s cost is typically less than that of printing and distributing paper flyers.

We will send more information to parents and our community partners next week.

Thank you for supporting our efforts to ensure parents are well informed about school programs, activities, and events!

KHS Fashion Show
Kings High School Fashion Studio students presented a Fashion Show on Friday, December 10. The students designed, created, and then modeled their favorite piece down the catwalk in front of their peers.

The course models a studio setting for individual and collaborative experiences that investigate fashion materials, designing, and merchandising strategies. Students learn about the design process of fashion garments and accessories in phases from research, sketches, and brainstorming to final garment creations and modeling.

We caught a Facebook Live of the third bell Fashion Studio Show. Check it out!
Kings Siblings Collect Books for Little Free Libraries
Kings students, Viktoria (11th grade), Beckham (10th grade), and Raymond Najem (6th grade) are collecting books for readers K through 6th grade for The Literacy Network of Greater Cincinnati (LNGC). The books will be used in Little Free Libraries around the area.

There are over 100 Little Free Libraries for kids in the Cincinnati area. Any gently used children or young adult books are welcomed. Culturally diverse books are needed, as well.

Drop-off boxes are located in the Kings High School Counseling Office or Mr. Mizner’s classroom or Mrs. Volker’s office. They will also pick up books by contacting tmestemaker@gmail.com or 513-222-4053 or Viktoria at vnajem7@gmail.com.

Little Free Library (LFL) is a nonprofit organization that inspires a love of reading, builds community, and sparks creativity by fostering neighborhood book exchanges around the world. LNGC is growing the presence of Little Free Libraries in neighborhoods where books are scarce, with the focus on "take a book, read a book."
