Annual Members' Meeting
Sunday, June 28, 10:00 am via Zoom
This year--no surprise--our annual meeting will be online. This means you can participate wearing sweatpants and drinking coffee from your own favorite mug.
We will review what has happened this past year and what it means for Or Shalom's future.
We have responded to the pandemic with energy and creativity, and we want to talk as a community about what we envision for the future.
RSVP here and the Zoom link will be sent to you.

Or Shalom At Home
It's week 9 of our online photo feature, Or Shalom At Home. Home is where we all are these days, and since we can't see each other in person, we're sharing photos. Each week the newsletter will feature a photo of one member/member household sheltering in place or venturing outside. Eventually we will create an album on the Or Shalom website documenting how our community waited out the pandemic.
We invite you to submit a photo, along with any message or caption, to
Lillian. Photos can be posed, candid, jokey, somber. Please identify everyone in the picture (use first names only if you like). By sending in a photo, you consent to have the photo, your names, and any message you have written displayed in the newsletter and on the public website.

Friday Nights at 7:00 Or Shalom Welcomes Shabbat
Every Friday night at 7:00 Or Shalom will be online, either with a short series of blessings led by a community member, or with a full Shabbat service.
On June 26
Rabbi Katie will lead a full Kabbalat Shabbat service.
July 3 will be a special
Erev Independence Shabbat
Join Rabbi Katie for Shabbat blessings and a discussion of the meaning of patriotism and our hopes for our Democracy as we anticipate the 4th of July. Bring songs, poetry, opinions, respectful listening skills, and friends.
(You can bring dinner too if you want to make this a virtual dinner party!)
These services will last until about 8:30. They are a wonderful opportunity to strengthen your soul with song and community. (
To minimize screen-sharing during services, please download and print our updated Zoominyan Siddur.)
Both Shabbat blessings and Shabbat services share a Zoom link:
Password: SHALOM
For audio by phone: (669) 900-6833
Meeting ID: 965036140
Services
will also be streaming on the Or Shalom Facebook page
via Facebook Live. Simply visit our Facebook page at the scheduled time to view.
Make sure you 'like' our page so that you will receive notifications when we go Live.

Time to Renew Your Membership Commitment!
Renewal letters have gone out. The sooner you respond, the better we will be able to plan for this coming year. Please be as generous as you can with your annual commitment; Or Shalom faces challenges ahead and a strong financial position will help keep the community active, cohesive, and creative. Make your commitment here, today.
Since this is the beginning of Or Shalom's fiscal year, it is an ideal time for new members to come aboard. They get a whole year's worth of value--just a look through this newsletter shows how much is happening--and combined with the new member discount, summer membership is a great bargain. If you know anyone who is considering joining our community, please send them here.

Social Action Corner
Here are some opportunities to "pray with your mouse:"
Join the Campaign for Schools and Communities First
"Education is the soul of our nation." (Dolores Huerta)
Many of us at Or Shalom signed petitions to get this measure on the ballot. We were successful! In November we will have the chance to vote on it. If it passes, California will have $12 billion more yearly in the budget for K-12 schools, community colleges, and local communities. The funds will come from closing a loophole in Prop 13 and making large property-owning corporations like Disney, Wells Fargo Bank, Bank of America, etc., pay their fair share of taxes. It will NOT affect homeowners or renters. Learn more about the ballot measure and how to get involved in promoting it here.
NAACP "We Are Done Dying" Campaign
As the world faces unprecedented times and new realities during this global pandemic, and as incidents of hate and domestic terrorism lead to the brutalization of African-Americans, the health and safety of African-American people are at an unparalleled risk. Support the NAACP's effort to get justice for George Floyd, enact criminal justice reform, and protect voters' rights. More here.
Learn about Facial Recognition Technology
Several large corporations recently announced that they were suspending sale of facial recognition technology to US police departments. The ACLU has a report on how this surveillance technology is being and could be used. This concerns us all!
