Dear GMHS Students and Families,

This week we received communication from the District regarding planning to move from the Hybrid learning environment to 100% in person Monday through Thursday this semester. Remote students would continue with remote learning at GMHS through the end of the semester.

Here is a general outline that will be used to determine a date for students to return in the 100% in person model:

  • On Tuesday of this week, principals were asked to gather input from stakeholders (students, families, staff) on a recommendation for a start date.
  • I met with stakeholder groups over the last two days to gather input. If you would like to provide input, please email Colleen Owens no later than Monday by noon.
  • Monday afternoon, Dr. Pennell, Dunstan Principal and I are scheduled to meet with our Community Superintendent, the Chief of Schools, and the Interim Superintendent to provide them with the input we receive and a recommendation from our articulation area of a start date. They will be meeting with all articulation areas in Jeffco on Monday.
  • The Interim Superintendent will be making the decision for all grades 6-12 and announcing his decision early next week.
  • The dates for return to 100% in person being considered:
  • Monday, March 8
  • Monday, March 15
  • Monday, March 22
  • Monday, April 5
  • Whichever date is announced, GMHS will be ready.
  • Details on the transition to 100% in person:
  • We will keep the same bell schedule we have now (Monday-Thursday, odd/even block, virtual Ram Time, Fridays asynchronous).
  • We are working on adding in person time on Fridays for specific interventions, office hours, Advanced Placement support, CTE classes to continue meeting in person. More information soon.
  • We will continue to follow health and safety protocols (screening upon entry, appropriate mask wearing, hand washing, sanitizing classrooms between classes). We will do our best to maintain 6 foot physical distancing, although there may be some classes where this is not possible based on the number of in person students. We will continue with our no hat policy and wearing school IDs so they are visible in the building.
  • Breakfast and lunch will continue to be served in a grab n' go format.
  • Remote students will continue in remote learning, unless an alternative request is made through a GMHS counselor.
  • Hybrid students will move into the 100% in person learning, unless an alternative request is made though a GMHS counselor.
  • We will continue to work with families to meet alternative requests, but will be bound by schedules, class sizes, and resources.
  • We are working with our remote teachers on when they will return. We do believe that some of our remote teachers will return to teaching in person. We will keep students updated if their remote teacher is returning in person.
  • Quarantine guidelines will continue to be followed including contact tracing. It is possible that we may see an uptick in the number of quarantines. Please continue to communicate with us if your student is sick. It takes time to get results of tests which is difficult for us to determine quarantines. Any help you can provide by staying in contact with our school RN is appreciated and very helpful.
  • GMHS currently has 477 students who are full remote out of 1120 total students. Hybrid A and B each have approximately 310 students per cohort. We are expecting to have approximately 620 students in the building when we transition to 100% in person.
  • As with any transition throughout this pandemic, we ask for your cooperation and support. It may take teachers a little longer to sanitize classrooms between classes, and we need to stay vigilant in maintaining our health and safety expectations to allow everyone in the school to feel as comfortable as possible and engage in learning.
  • If you would like to provide your feedback on a start date, please email Colleen Owens at [email protected] by noon on Monday.

Thank you for your continued support!

Go Rams!

2021-2022 Registration
This week, students in grades 9, 10, and 11 began registering for classes next year. Due to the current situation, students will be completing a Google Form with their choices. At the same time, English, Math, Science, Social Studies and World Language teachers will be having a conversation with students and make teacher recommendations as well.

Both the Student Google Form and the Teacher Recommendations are DUE by Friday, February 26.

Watch this video with more information about the Student Google Form. Since students can only submit the form once, they are encouraged to speak with their parent/guardian about their choices. Again, final submission is DUE by Friday, February 26.

This is the first step in the registration process. We will work on class schedules over the next couple of months so there is time for students to talk with their counselor or teachers with any questions.
Assessment
SAT/PSAT Testing Information:

As of right now there is not an option to take the SAT virtually. Students only have the option of taking the test using Paper/Pencil in person at GMHS. In order to follow COVID guidelines we are planning to give the SAT, PSAT 10, and PSAT 9 on three different dates. Students will arrive on their testing date no later than 7:45AM in order to start testing promptly at 8AM. Most students will be finished before Noon.
  • 11th - SAT - Tuesday, April 13, 2021
  • 10th - PSAT 10 - Wednesday, April 14, 2021
  • 9th - PSAT 8/9 - Thursday, April 15, 2021

AP Testing Information:

Mr. Craig is working with our Advanced Placement teachers to determine a plan for administering AP assessments. Look for more information in the next few weeks.

The new 2021 AP Exam schedule provides three testing dates for each subject between early May and mid-June.

  • Administration 1 (May 3–7, 10–12, 14, and 17): Exams are paper and pencil, administered in school.
  • Administration 2 (May 18–21, 24–28): Half of the subjects are only paper and pencil, administered in school, and half are only digital, administered in school or taken at home.
  • Administration 3 (June 1–4, 7–11): Most subjects are only digital, administered in school or taken at home.

CMAS Science

As of right now there is not an option to take the CMAS remotely.

  • 11th - Testing Window is April 12 to May 14
  • Will narrow down a specific date soon to not overlap with SAT and AP

COVID 19 UPDATE
  • The district requires schools to communicate when their are positive cases of COVID 19 in our school.
  • This letter will be included in our Family Updates when we have a positive case in the building during school hours. See below.

"Schools who have had more than one positive case will only be sending this notification letter out once in a two week period. If there are more than one case in a two week period, the numbers will reflect on Jeffco’s Dashboard located here. Dashboard information does lag behind 24-48 hours. If there are 5% or more positive cases in one school in a two week period, there will be additional information sent out to all families with next steps."
Happy February everyone!
Wishing you all a most wonderful long weekend.

Family Wellness & Assistance
Apply to help with fees
Although Jeffco is supplying free meals because of the Pandemic, many federal programs and extra counseling support is determined by a school’s percentage of approved APPLICATIONS for free and reduced lunch program. The potential is there for GM to receive more funding and student supports with increased free and reduced lunch participation. Approval also helps you with other school fees. To apply visit: Free & Reduced - JEFFCO Public School Food & Nutrition Services

If you would like to use the Comcast Internet Essential low cost internet access they will ask if you filled out a free and reduced lunch before applying.
