SPECIAL NEWS

RECOGNIZING OUR CUSTER ROAD SHEPHERDS ON 12/19 SUN!

Shepherd Chronociles Bulletin Ad.jpg

We would like to take each week during Advent to recognize and highlight the shepherding ministries of Custer Road! With Pastor Kory's sermon series, "Shepherd Chronicles," we would like to invite Adult Discipleship leaders, including Sunday School Officers, Book Club facilitators and Bible Study teachers, to be recognized and commissioned to our own "shepherding" ministries on December 19th, both at the 9:45am Modern Worship, and the 11am Traditional Worship.

  • How could this benefit my ministry?

This could be a wonderful opportunity for us to appreciate you for being such wonderful shepherds! It also is a great chance for those who are looking for a Sunday School to know that you are there.

  • When is this happening?

Before or on the first week of Advent, we will provide a name tag with your name. You are encouraged to wear them throughout the Advent season. Each week, we will recognize different shepherd ministries in our church:

November 28   Pastoral Care and Mission

December 5      Youth and Children Education

December 12   Music, Worship (A/V) and Hospitality

December 19   Adult Education

It will be done in both services as of now. You can choose either one of the services to participate.

  • What is happening the day of?

For the Traditional Worship: We will all gather in the narthex before the worship starts. During the first music, we will have all the leaders of adult education process to the front. You would be considered "shepherds" and part of the "Shepherd Chronicles" Advent Theme. You can get creative and bring your own staff, dress up as shepherds, bring a sign with your class' name, etc. After the first hymn, there will be a bit of liturgy recognizing and honoring shepherds. And you are done! As simple as that!

For the Modern Worship: Keep worshipping in your seats until Pastor Kory calls you to come front to be recognized! You are more than welcome to sit together as a group.

  • When can I pick up my name tag?

Everyone should have received their name tags by now either in person or via mail. If you have not, please contact our admin support, Kim by kwhorley@crumc.org to get your name tags!

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me!

I hope you consider being part of celebrating together! I'm thankful for you!

Rev. Danielle Kim

BIBLE STUDIES

THE BOOK OF HEBREWS

Adult Discipleship Headers _5_.png

The Book of Hebrews to modern day Christians may seem to be a strange and difficult book to read and understand. It has a different feel and texture when placed along side of the Gospels and Paul’s letters. However, the book’s theology follows the Gospel message and Paul’s teachings. Although its author is unknown the book was written to encourage a group of new Christians from falling back to their old religious understandings and practices.

This Bible study group, that began 15 years ago as a United Methodist Men's group, welcomes new faces and new perspectives. It is an open discussion format lead by Dennis Allen who provides facilitation as each verse and chapter is read by the group. All you need is your favorite Bible, what you know in your faith and an open mind. The class will continue to be on ZOOM which has been an effective way to hold this type class discussion over the many months of COVID.

In Reading the Old Testament Through Jewish Eyes, Rabbi Moffic explores the first five books of the Hebrew Bible and highlights the key points of interest to Christians. ADULT PILGRIMAGE

Adult Discipleship Headers _7_.png

Adult Pilgrimage will be a two-year commitment to read the entire Bible cover to cover with a group of fellow believers. We will explore the scripture together and learn from each other.

It will be modeled after the highly successful Custer Road Youth Pilgrimage class and will be facilitated by Dave Wagner and Tony Hairston using the Socratic method of teaching where thought-provoking questions are raised and discussed and where the participants are largely empowered to find their own answers.

The LOFT Sunday School class is undertaking this commitment as a group but is enthusiastically inviting other adults to join us in this study. The study meets mid-January through June and resumes after Labor Day until just before Thanksgiving. The schedule includes summer and Christmas break each year, with approximately 70 total meetings across the two years. This class meets in person with a Zoom option.
