Census 2020 - Strafford Region Self-Response Update
Our GIS planner Jackson Rand has been regularly updating a regional map showing self-response rates for the 2020 Census.

The numerous iterations of this map can now be found on our  blog site .

The most recent version of the map, pictured above, shows the current 2020 self response rates, and highlights the communities that have already exceeded their 2010 census response rates; shoutouts to New Durham, Brookfield, Farmington, Nottingham, and Dover!

If you haven't responded to the Census yet, help boost your municipality's self-response rate!

If you don't know how to take the Census, check out this video we made! Or head to www.my2020census.gov.
Planning Event of Interest: "What's it worth to you? Valuing water quality for community decision making"
UNH Cooperative Extension (UNCHCE) will hold an online, interactive discussion-based event on Monday, June 1. This event, which takes place via Zoom from 7 - 8 p.m., will be hosted by Dr. Shannon Rogers, State Specialist of Nature Economy at UNH Cooperative Extension. She will share insights on understanding how people value water quality and how those values can be used in community decision making. Discussion will be centered on her research that looks at measuring water quality benefits including work in the Great Bay Region on nitrogen, with the Maine & NH surfing population and other freshwater recreation (swimming, boating, fishing).

Question and answer discussion is encouraged.

Participants or interested individuals are encouraged to check out  the Nature Economy Values of Freshwater Recreation in NH Fact Sheet , developed by Dr. Rogers ahead of time!

RSVP to  megan.glenn@unh.edu  for Zoom log-in information.
Planning Event of Interest: Build Maine - Sharon Woods Presentation
The annual  BUILD Maine  conference has gone virtual. The 2020 program includes six presentations throughout the month of June. These sessions are available for Continuing Education Credits, and are  priced individually, and for an all-access rate

The next session, taking place on Thursday, Jun. 4 from 9:30 a.m. to noon, features owner of LandUseUSA | Urban Strategies Sharon Wood. LandUseUSA staff are professional consultants who specialize in real estate consulting, with a focus on place-based Urban Strategies, Target Market Analysis (TMA), Downtown Market Strategies, and Land Use Economics

Sharon will address how studies to understand local gaps and needs for urban housing can be improved by using an innovative Target Market Analysis approach. This strategy shifts the focus onto the lifestyles of migrating households and their preferences for missing housing formats and is relevant when contemplating impacts of the current economic and health crisis on cities and urban places.

Join the session to hear what Sharon has found in her analysis of two Maine communities; and her forecasts of the impacts that COVID-19 will have on the lifestyle preferences of migrating Y and Z generations.
