From Priscilla & Pam's Desk
As we make our way through these unsettling times, we invite you to enjoy this little reprieve from all of the turbulence that surrounds us. Let us go on a journey to nature to heal our soul and to lighten our moods, shall we?

This newsletter includes photos and video from some of our favorite spots. Also, read about Erin’s journey with the philanthropic side of Global Sojourns – Global Sojourns Giving Circle (GSGC) – through her long love affair with Africa.

We hope you enjoy this break from all of the "noise" and look forward to when we can meet again in the wilds of this incredible continent.

Wild Wishes,
Pam and Priscilla
What About...
Lions on the beach? Check out the latest Covid Chronicles from Namibia. An 8-minute journey to watch these exceptional desert adapted lions.
Our current favourite documentary on Netflix is My Octopus Teacher. Filmed in Cape Town, an endearing story about a man's exploration of the freezing waters of the Atlantic ocean as he dives through the kelp forests he comes across an octopus and forms a unique friendship.
OTHERWISE … SOME SIMPLE PLEASURES
Do you follow our Instagram page or, have visited our website recently? If so, you may have seen this particular image come up. We love it! It is one of our favourites! This image of lionesses was captured during a trip to Tswalu Kalahari Private Game Reserve in South Africa.
A little factoid about Global Sojourns … The majority of the photos that we use on our social media, website, newsletter and itineraries were taken by Priscilla herself (unless otherwise specified).
The campfire (or, the Bush T.V. as it is sometimes called) captivates your attention as you stare into the flames, to decompress and process all that you have seen and done during the day. This beautiful set up was for sundowners, a wonderful African tradition that allows you to soak in the view at a fabulous location in the bush whilst sipping on your wine or gin and tonic.

Giving more in these extraordinary times

My trips to Africa, through Global Sojourns, opened my eyes to how interconnected and fragile the ecosystem is: human, animal, land and water. My trips helped me see the injustice of poverty, especially for girls and women, and moved me to do something about it. This year, I am moved to do more.

The coronavirus pandemic and wildfires near my California home have been tough. But I’m heart-broken at the toll the pandemic is taking on everything and everyone I love in Africa. Families already struggling are now just trying to survive. Lack of food is increasing wildlife poaching. Girls’ fragile access to education is suspended. By all reports, the pandemic is wiping out years of gains, especially for women and girls in Southern Africa. Teen pregnancies and violence against girls and women are up sharply.
I hold much respect and affection for Priscilla, the mentors and the girls and boys they serve. Their response to the pandemic, pivoting as challenges arise, has only increased my admiration and my desire to help. Educating girls means later marriages, fewer children, greater prosperity, greater environmental conservation, and more lives lived with dignity. GSGC girls and boys clubs are needed now more than ever.

Will you join me in making a special investment before Global Sojourns Giving Circle’s fiscal year end on Oct. 31?

This scrappy, tenacious non-profit has come so far, and is accomplishing so much good, now the team needs our help to keep this essential work going during these extraordinary times. Together we can make a significant difference for girls, their families, communities, and…we can help protect wildlife. That’s a good return on investment.

Thank you,
Erin West
JUST FOR FUN …
A traditional Irish blessing …
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields.
Until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
