A Message From the Director

Dear Friends of the Foundation,

It's hard to believe that fair week is almost here! While it will look different this year, we are grateful that our county's youth will still have the opportunity to participate in Junior Fair. The pandemic has certainly taught us the importance of flexibility and shined a spotlight on how quickly the needs of the community can change. We could have never anticipated a pandemic last year when we created the Community Impact Fund, but the current situation underscores the importance of a local fund that allows us to quickly respond to community needs. We hope you will consider a donation to the Community Impact Fund as part of your year-end giving. You can learn more in the article below.

In this edition of the newsletter, you will find details about a fundraising webinar we will be hosting later this month, meet our scarecrow, Rosie, and learn more about the important work of our Ambassadors' Club. You will also learn about current board member, John McGraw.

Our new donation portal is now live - we think you will find it to be easier to navigate than the previous portal. Of course, donations can still be accepted by mailing a check to the Foundation office, or dropping a check off in person.

Thank you for your continued support of the Foundation!

Meet Rosie the Scarecrow

The Fairfield County Foundation is excited to be participating in the 2020 Fairfield County Trail of Scarecrows, which includes nearly 300 scarecrows on display throughout the county.

Our scarecrow was inspired by the famous ad including Rosie the Riveter. Being an office that has been led by Amy Eyman, Executive Director, for 21 years and currently has a staff of all women, we thought this was perfect inspiration for our scarecrow. Not to mention, 2020 is the 100th anniversary of women receiving the right to vote!

We would love to have your vote! You can do so by completing the form here!

Supporting the Ambassadors' Club

The Ambassadors' Club provides the funds to help the Foundation raise awareness of the importance of philanthropy in our community and share information about the Foundation's efforts locally. Becoming a member of this generous group allows you the opportunity to directly support the Foundation's work through an unrestricted fund for the needs in our community.

As an Ambassadors' Club member, you are the face of the Foundation, making it possible for us to tell our story in the community and carry our mission forward. We will keep you informed of our activities and also invite you to attend Foundation functions such as our year-end Ambassadors' Club event.

To date, Ambassadors' Club members have contributed more than $325,000 directly to this cause. We ask that you consider making a contribution of your own today.

Donations can be made via our online donation portalby mailing a check to the Foundation Office at 162 E Main Street, Lancaster OH 43130, or delivering a check in-person.
Community Impact Fund

The Fairfield County Community Impact Fund, an unrestricted fund established in 2019, enables the Foundation to respond to changing community needs, support innovative solutions to community problems, and enhance the quality of life in Fairfield County.

Given what we have experienced in 2020, the need for a Community
Impact Fund that allows us to quickly respond to local needs is abundantly clear. We hope that all of our supporters will consider a year-end gift to help us grow the Community Impact Fund and prepare for future crises. Your gift will be part of an endowment dedicated in perpetuity to our community's well-being, benefitting residents now and for generations to come.

Community members interested in donating or learning more about the Fairfield County Foundation's efforts are encouraged to visit our website or contact the Foundation at 740-654-8451.

Meet Our Board: John McGraw

Current Board Member, John McGraw was born and raised in Lancaster. His father moved to Lancaster in 1952 from Urbana, Ohio to purchase the Oldsmobile franchise of General Motors. Not knowing anyone when they moved here, John says that the Lancaster community welcomed their family and that support allowed his family to have a successful Oldsmobile dealership for 49 years. After Oldsmobile was phased out, John chose to stay in the car business locally with Taylor Chevrolet, now known as Hugh White Chevrolet.

Besides serving on the Fairfield County Foundation board, John is an active member of St. Mary of the Assumption Parish, St. Mary Foundation, William V. Fisher Catholic High School Foundation, and the Lancaster-Fairfield County Chamber of Commerce, where his family sponsors the annual Athena Award. John enjoys golfing and working in his yard. He has a daughter, a son and four grandchildren.

John's father instilled in him that you should give back to the community where you live and work. John believes in the mission of the Fairfield County Foundation and says: "The Foundation's 30+ years of successful growth speaks for itself. Their aggressive approach to addressing the diverse needs in our community is outstanding. Their willingness to reach out to other agencies and their ability to offer assistance is second to none." John believes that the Foundation is not only here for the needs of today, but is prepared to address the needs of the future, too.

While serving on the board, John hopes to better educate the community on the resources available through the Fairfield County Foundation, what it has to offer, and what it hopes to accomplish.

What is a Community Foundation?

A community foundation is a non-profit, publicly supported, nonsectarian philanthropic institution with a long-term goal of building permanent funds established by many donors to carry out their charitable interests, and for the broad-based charitable interest of and for the residents of a defined geographic area.
