Greetings Fox Families!

Welcome back!!! This is my favorite time of year. There is nothing like the start of a school year. We are extremely excited to welcome back your child(ren). We hope you have had the opportunity to enjoy the summer and spend some quality time together. Although, school looks different we are committed to providing you and your family the best schooling experience possible in whatever modality of learning our families have chosen.

I am excited to be returning for my third year as principal of ACES. I look forward to continuing our journey together. It is imperative that I foster a relationship with each and everyone of you so that we can ensure your child's success. As always, please do not hesitate to contact me in any way if you have a question, concern or would like to have a conversation about how we can support your child.

During such a unique year, we have prepared some guidance on how to support your child on coming to school if that is the modality you chose: Preparing to Return to School.

Each year, students in kindergarten through eighth grade take the Measures of Academic Progress® (MAP®) test in the winter and spring. This year students will also take the MAP®  assessment in the fall between the dates of August 24 to September 4.  The test helps educators identify students in need of additional support or more challenging course work in reading and mathematics. MAP® tests are unique in that they adapt to be appropriate for your child’s level of learning. As a student responds to questions, the test responds to the student, adjusting in difficulty. MAP® tests are untimed, but a test is usually completed in less than 60 minutes. For more information or resources visit www.nwea.org, or download the Parent Toolkit at https://www.nwea.org/parent-toolkit/. For our students who are E-Learning, I am attaching helpful guidance for your child to take the MAP at home. MAP Remote Testing Guidance or MAP Guia Para Evaluacion Remota Para Familias

This year we have hired a couple of new teachers: Mary Guzman - 2nd Grade DL, Maddie Dingman - 5th Grade, Courtney Voogt - ILT, Sarah Swick - SPED LBS1, and Mary Swade - SPED LBS1. Please help me in welcoming our new foxes to the den. We are excited to add them to our team. All of these individuals bring unique strengths and experiences that will be a great asset to ACES.

I hope your family enjoys these last weeks of summer. I look forward to hearing and seeing everyone throughout the year.

Go Foxes! Paw Pride!

ZZZ's with the P's

This year we are continuing on ZZZ's with the P's. Every month after our PTO meetings, Melinda and I will post a video on our YouTube channel and read a story to our students. We want you to join in on the fun and watch. You can greet us, ask questions and tell us if you like the story after we post on Facebook. At the end of the story we will be giving an assignment which we will explain in detail. We are extremely excited to continue this. Our goal is for this to be a monthly fun interactive time with your family and the P's (principal's). We will be launching our first story after our first PTO meeting of the year on August 25. Please ensure to watch us. Follow our Facebook page and YouTube Channel so you can be alerted when we post a new video.

Attendance Matters

It is important that your child come to school everyday or attend their live Zoom sessions daily. We promptly begin the day at 8:35 a.m. If for any reason your child will be absent from school please call the main office at 630-553-4048 to report the absence. You can make phone calls late at night and leave a message.

Your child's success starts with attendance!!
Student Self-Certification

All parents regardless of modality should be certifying their child daily. The purpose is to track symptoms and monitor positive cases as some students do enter the building for sports/activities. They also mix and mingle after school hours and we have to be able to monitor symptoms.

The school district participates in the USDA National School Lunch Program (NSLP). The NSLP is a federally-assisted meal program that provides nutritionally balanced, low-cost or free lunches to children each school day. As part of the NSLP, all meals in District 115 meet or exceed the nutrition standards for school meals

All students will have access to meals through the district. Families who opted into the e-learning or hybrid models can purchase multi-day meals, while those attending on-site can purchase meals at the school.

Weekday meals can be picked-up on Tuesdays between 4-6 p.m. at Yorkville High School, 797 Game Farm Road (Door 21). Families who qualify for the state’s free and reduced meal
program will receive these meals at the free/reduced cost. Meals will also be available for purchase. Per National School Lunch program requirements, District 115 student names must be provided during meal pick-up for state reporting purposes.

Yorkville CUSD 115 will be distributing “ready to eat” and “heat and serve” lunch meals and breakfast meals (YMS & YHS students only) to families of students who have opted into the following educational models:

Grades 1-8 E-learning & Hybrid - These students will receive meals for five days. Consistent with pre COVID-19 meal patterns, elementary students are eligible to receive lunch meals, and middle school students are eligible to receive breakfast and lunch meals.

Free and Reduced Meal Prices
NSLP uses specific Income Eligibility Guidelines to determine eligibility for free and reduced price meals or free milk for students. Parents/Guardians interested in completing an online application to receive meal benefits for their children, may do so starting August 1st.

ACES has a very active and inclusive parent group. PTO is a formal organization composed of parents/guardians, teachers and staff that is intended to facilitate parental participation in our school. Our next meeting of the year will be August 25th @ 6:00 p.m. We are always looking for new faces to be a part of our group. Any and all are welcome!
