Have a great summer break! Northwest ISD will begin the 2020-21 school year on Thursday, Aug. 20. We currently have no plans to change our academic calendar, and we will keep families updated of any new guidance from the Texas Education Agency or changes in district plans. As we begin our summer break, here are several important reminders.

Current meal program ends this week, summer program to begin soon
In conjunction with the end of the 2019-20 school year, our current meal program has ended. Our regular summer meal program will be hosted be Love and Prairie View elementary schools and will last from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday to Thursday, starting June 1 to June 30. Families should keep the car signs they used during the school year to allow us to continue to serve meals efficiently. The district's snack pack program will continue into the summer, and families in this program have been directly contacted.

Food assistance coming from the government for families in need
For families in need, the federal and state government will soon provide benefits to help purchase food. This applies to children who received SNAP food benefits for March 2020, children certified for free or reduced-priced school meals in 2019-20 and children who attend a school that offers free meals to all students who apply. For more information, view this flyer. Expect additional communication from the district about this topic soon.

High school credit retrieval, original credit program open
For students who will attend a Northwest ISD high school in 2020-21, registration for summer credit retrieval and original credit courses is now open. This is a free online program, with registration due by June 8. For more information, click here.

Take part in globe-trotting summer learning opportunities
Travel the world virtually this summer with our online summer learning! Our Learning that Takes You Places website offers students the opportunity to virtually explore a variety of cultures and locations around the world by reading, discussing, writing, reflecting and extending their learning. Learning that Takes You Places is designed to cross grade levels and content areas. For more information or to take part, visit www.nisdtx.org/summer.
