Downtown Boise Association Announces Plans for Alive After Five & Father’s Day Car Show in 2020
Boise, May 1, 2020 - Downtown Boise Association (DBA) is adjusting upcoming summer events in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Traditionally, the Alive After Five Summer Concert Series kicks off on the first Wednesday of June and continues each Wednesday evening of the summer. We are pleased to announce that this year, we will host a virtual, streamed concert series in June. Plans for the remainder of the 34 th season of Alive After Five will be announced as July and August draw closer. The Father’s Day Car Show is held in downtown Boise on Father’s Day each June and will also be held in an online format.

Father’s Day Car Show Details:
The annual Father’s Day Car Show brings families together to celebrate America’s love of cars, envision the future of transportation, and enjoy downtown Boise while celebrating the father figures in our lives. In 2019, more than 200 participants registered their cars, and more than 10,000 people visited downtown during the day-long event. This year, in keeping with the classic-to-modern theme of the show itself, organizers make the move from a traditional in-person event to a virtual one, with a dedicated Father’s Day Car Show page at downtownboise.org launching on June 21, 2020. Visitors will be able to browse pictures, videos, and information submitted by registrants in both the classic and electric categories. There will be a function to vote for People’s Choice awards in both categories, with trophies being awarded to the winners. Registrations fees are waived for 2020’s virtual event. Voters will be entered to win one of two Downtown Boise $50 Gift Cards to treat dad to a Father’s Day gift.
Dave Krick is the original founder and long-time supporter of the Car Show, and owner of Bittercreek, Red Feather, and Diablo & Sons restaurants that are directly on the usual footprint of the event in downtown. He said, “Change is easier when we do it together, when we include everyone, and when we celebrate how we got here. Today, we prepare for the world's only virtual car show that celebrates classic cars over 40 years of age, side by side with modern electric vehicles, and with that we celebrate our ability to set our differences aside and focus on our common interests, and we celebrate good dads.”

Alive After Five Details:
The 34 th season of the Alive After Five free summer concert series in downtown Boise will kick off with online concerts in June 2020. This year’s presenting sponsor Connections Credit Union and Downtown Boise Association host the series that traditionally brings in local and touring musicians each Wednesday during June, July, and August, with the mission of fostering community and economic development in downtown.
This year attendees will be able to enjoy the concerts with bands of the caliber they expect from the series from the comfort of their own homes. We are proud to announce that the first virtual AA5 concert will feature local opening act Deviant Kin. Dustbowl Revival will headline. The remainder of the band lineup for June, as well as information on July and August, will be announced in the following weeks. The best way to stay updated is via DBA’s Facebook and Instagram accounts.

“We are actively planning the series to accommodate current health and safety standards. We believe wholeheartedly that the world and our community needs the celebration and shared connection that only comes from music. We are working diligently to provide something for our community in lieu of shows we cannot hold in a traditional way, versus a direct cancellation,” said DBA Event Manager Karlee May. Incoming DBA Board President Jess Carter adds, “Live music is summer, and Boise summer is live music. We are in this together and summer in Boise will go on.”

In addition to making the concerts available online, Downtown Boise merchandise and beverages, including beer and wine brands that would have been sold during the live events, will be available for purchase to-go on The Grove Plaza leading up to the virtual event each week. We invite the public to create their own Alive After Five experience with drinks, t-shirts, sunglasses, cozies, and more to enhance their at-home AA5 experience.

DBA continues to work with local nonprofit partners for the Tips for Charity program in which all tips from bar sales are pooled and donated to the selected organizations for each month. Details about how to make those online donations will be released in the coming weeks. Selected charities for 2020 are Camp Rainbow Gold, Ronald McDonald House, and the Boise Firefighters L149 Burnout Fund.
