From the Principal

Dear Parents:

We had the best week celebrating School Choice week, and we thank you for choosing Trivium.  The students enjoyed the dress up days and the projects that go along with the week.  Next, we will celebrate Black History Month and the 100th day of school (Feb. 19).

Our secondary students finished exams and started a new quarter.  We are settling into new schedules and classes. We are working diligently to get the skills mastery sheets and report cards out to parents as we sort through some technical difficulties. We'll keep you posted. Thank you for your patience.

Our high school Speech and Debate team is preparing for the Harvard University Forensics Tournament during President’s Day weekend.   Hopefully, they can actually attend the tournament in person next year.

Elementary students are also hard at work.  Grades 3-6 will take a benchmark in math and reading this week. This is simply a check to see where they are, so we can better prepare instruction.

Soccer season is here, and our goal is for a season of games.  We hope for a dry field and warmish weather!

Thank you for trusting us with your children.

Proud to be a Knight,
Marsha Cawthon

Please note that this application is for new students only. We will conduct an intent to return survey in February for current students.

We are so excited to kick off our newest section of the newsletter which highlights the work of our dedicated staff members. This week we want to spotlight the amazing Mrs. Kelli Gerard, our school librarian.

You might not know that Mrs. Gerard is from Connecticut and obtained her graduate degree from Wheelock College in Boston...where she realized she needed to escape the cold and move to Texas! Before her librarian days, she worked as a child life coach at Boston Children's and Medical City hospitals. She realized her love for the library life while volunteering at her child's school library. She spent so much time volunteering at Trivium in the early days, and we are forever grateful for her service.

Kelli has worked tirelessly this year to continue putting books in the hands of Trivium students, even amidst all the COVID regulations. Every single day she quarantines returned books, visits every classroom do read alouds and book talks, makes choice boards for every grade level to select books, manages a digital check out system to help remote students check out books, helps teachers with research and digital literacy lessons, and she never misses a beat! We are so thankful for her dedication to empowering young readers while continuing the mission at Trivium to create readers for life.

This year the school spelling bee looked a little different than in the past, but we're proud of the fact that we were still able to offer this experience to our students! We had two school winners, Ryan Gerard and Julia Varghese, who went on to complete at the county bee last night, February 2nd. The County Bee was conducted through an online testing format. Due to technical issues at the Bee, a winner has not been confirmed yet. Either way, we are so proud of our spellers!

Elementary art students created “personal alphabets” by designing symbols for each letter of the alphabet. Then they made words from their code! We love the creativity from Mrs. Devore’s art students
Students created their personal alphabets in class and then utilized their presentation skills to share their personal alphabet with their classmates.

Thank you to all the parents who contributed to our weight room renovation. We truly appreciate your donations. It is really starting to take shape.
People Love Us on Yelp!
Trivium Academy was just given the "People Love Us on Yelp" award for our above average score of 4.05 rating. We're very proud of the work we do here with our students, and we always ask ourselves the question, "What is the best thing for the kids?" We consider ourselves a student first school, and it shows. We would love for you to share your love for Trivium on Yelp, too! Great Schools is another site where you could write us a review and share your positive experiences at Trivium. We could all use a little positivity during this difficult time!

Lunch Reminders
basicImage
Part of being a “closed campus” means we cannot accept food deliveries throughout the day. If you forget to pack your child’s lunch, please drop the lunch on the front porch on the designated lunch cart by 11am. Please label with your child’s name. We will not be accepting lunches at the door to prevent additional exposure to the school. We will be pulling lunches at 10:35am and 11:00am. Please plan accordingly. And please remember that if you come to campus to pick up your child, you must also have a mask on to come to the door. We are following all precautions we can to keep our campus safe, and we appreciate your help with this.
Carpool Reminders
  • Please follow the correct path, and watch for people walking through the parking lots to enter our building and our neighbor's building.
  • Place car in park and wait for a carpool worker to signal you to move.
  • Absolutely NO cell phone use in car line.
  • Do not get out of your car or signal to your child to come to your car without an adult.
  • When your child is loaded, please pull your tag down to signal you are ready to go.
  • Do not wait to turn left at the exit light. The creates a backup in the line.
  • Please visit this link for complete carpool instructions and map:

COVID-19 Response
Anytime that we post a notice of a confirmed case on campus, we understandably get a number of questions. We can't disclose any information about the infected individual or other students who are quarantined due to privacy laws, so it often makes those questions difficult to answer. What we can provide is some general information that may help though.

We follow the Denton County Health Department's protocols regarding close contact and quarantine anyone whom we believe to have been within six feet of the infected individual for more than 15 minutes. Our teachers are doing a great job of keeping the students as far apart as possible, but unfortunately, our rooms are not large enough to keep everyone six feet apart at all times. Because of this, it would be unlikely for a whole class to need to quarantine, but it can result in a few students seated near an individual who tests positive to need to quarantine as a precaution.

Thank you for your continued support as we work daily to keep our Knights learning and healthy!
