Your Weekly Community Brief from AMMS

Believe it or not, here we are at the end of the school year. It has been a great school year and I am going to miss our 8th graders as they move onto high school. We don't know what the new school year will bring yet, but I will keep you updated through phone calls over the summer. This newsletter will continue later in the summer and I will include all the back to school information you will need to prepare.
I am looking forward to celebrating our award winning students on Friday, May 29th from 1 to 3 pm for our Drive Thru award pick up. The announcement of the award winners will be via a recorded ceremony and it will be posted on the evening of Tuesday, May 26th, but you can watch it whenever you have time.
On Friday, come to the school and please enter through the Votaw Road entrance and follow the signs to pick up your awards. We will be recognizing the following:
- All A Honor Roll for the 19-20 school year (certificate and yard sign)
- A/B Honor Roll for the 19-20 school year (certificate and yard sign)
- 8th graders who have had all A's for 3 years (certificate, yard sign, trophy)
- 8th graders who have had A/B honor roll for 3 years (certificate, yard sign, trophy)
- 8th grade Superlatives (8 winners will receive certificate and trophy)
- 8th grade Star Students (teacher choices will receive certificate)
If you can't make it on Friday, you are welcome to come by the school at any time next week to pick up the awards.
A few other updates:
- Picking up or dropping off items can happen in the front office from 9 am to 4 pm each day
- PE Clothes: picked up in the front office
- Band and Orchestra instruments: you may keep your instrument for the summer and check it back in this fall. If you are in 8th grade, you may keep your instrument IF you contact Mr. Sargent. If you chose to return your instrument, bring it to the office and be sure to sign it in on the return log and put your name on the instrument.
- Laptops and hot spots: ALL students are to keep their laptops/hotspots for the summer.
- Technology issues: ALL students should bring their laptops to the school for assistance if you have any issues. 8th grade students should also bring their laptops back to our school for the summer.
Have a wonderful relaxing summer! I want to challenge you to read a book a week over the summer. Reading will keep your minds engaged and active. You can travel anywhere in the world and have incredible adventures by reading!

Immunizations Needed for 6th Graders Going into 7th Grade
The State of Florida requires all incoming 7th graders to have the Tdap Immunization on the Florida 680 Health Form prior to the start of school. (floridahealth.gov)
Please email the updated 680 Health Form to Mrs. Enamorado at [email protected] by July 31, 2020 to ensure your child starts school on time. You can also drop the forms off at the school office.
If we do not have the 680 Health Form with the Tdap immunization included on the form, your child will NOT be able to sign out their laptops and/or receive their class schedule for the 2020-21 school year until the updated form is received.
You can get the required immunization in a variety of locations:
* Your child's pediatrician
* Orange County Health Department
* Walgreens
* Walmart

Boys and Girls Club Summer Program
Your Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida After School Zone is connecting with our members by offering several virtual sessions throughout the week. The sessions include tutoring, mentorship, social hour, Computer Science, STEM challenges and more. We would love to have your child join us!
You just need to do two things to participate:
You must be a registered member to participate in our virtual programming! Once your permission form is complete, we will email you with further details. For questions regarding the signup process or virtual programming, contact Detra Moore at [email protected]

Dear Parent/Guardian,
OCPS is providing a Course Recovery opportunity for sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students for students who are in danger of making adequate progress for the 2019-2020 school year. This means that your child may not be on track to meet the requirements for successful completion in one or more core courses. If your child requires Course Recovery to meet requirements, you will receive notification from the school electronically and through the mail. A registration form will be sent to you. Please fill out this form and return it electronically to Mr. Bartfield or deliver it to the school.
It will be important for your child to register for this program, if they require Course Recovery. Our goal is to provide students with an opportunity to demonstrate competency in order to meet course requirements and to be able to move our 8th graders to high school.
Summer School is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, June 2nd and will conclude on Thursday, June 25th.

49 Days of Acts of Love and Kindness
Orlando United Day is Friday, June 12
Acts of love and kindness were showered on our community after the Pulse tragedy on June 12, 2016. Orlando United Day (June 12) is dedicated to remembering the 49 victims of the Pulse tragedy, supporting the survivors, and continuing to spread acts of love and kindness throughout our community.
The City of Orlando, One Orlando Alliance, onePULSE Foundation, and Orange County Government are encouraging everyone in our community to participate in the 49 Days of Acts of Love and Kindness leading up to June 12th.
* How can you participate in the 49 Days of Acts of Love and Kindness?
* Smile at least 49 times today.
* Say thanks to a teacher, nurse, police officer, and firefighter.
* Walk a neighbor's dog for them.
* Donate items to a food pantry.
* Clean out your closets and donate old clothes, shoes, and toys to families in need.
* Decorate your sidewalk with chalk art.
* Write uplifting messages on post-its, and hang them around your house to cheer up family.
* Share your talents by performing in your yard or on social media.
* Hold a door open for someone.
* Let someone go ahead of you in line.
* Teach someone to make music.
* Teach someone how to paint.
* Teach someone to read.
* Help your siblings with their homework.
* Teach a senior citizen how to text, or use Skype, Facebook or Instagram, so they can stay connected to their families.
* Help a senior citizen or single parent with yard work.
* Say hello to someone who is different from you, and try to imagine the world from the eyes.
