Dear DACC Families,

We have been working closely with the Delaware General Health District, as well as our associate districts to make the best decisions for the health and safety of our students and staff. I truly appreciate your patience and understanding as our course of action has changed almost on a daily basis. Yet again, we are updating you with a new plan for our students starting tomorrow (3/16).

Students will not attend DACC on Monday, March 16th, 2020, as previously reported.

With new information being released about a confirmed case of the COVID-19 in the Columbus area, we believe this decision is in the best interest of everyone involved. Delaware Area Career Center students will receive an orientation communication from their instructor before the end of the day Monday. Students can expect their first remote learning assignment no later than Tuesday, March 17th. Sometime before Monday, April 6th, the situation will be reassessed.

Here is how the new schedule breaks down:
  • Monday, March 16th: Students remain home and will receive orientation communication from teachers (see below for picking up materials/medications)
  • Tuesday, March 17th - Friday, March 27th: Students will stay home and attend classes remotely
  • Monday, March 30th - Friday, April 3rd: DACC Spring Break. There will be no remote classes

Below is an outline of what this means for you with the information that I have today:

Picking Up Materials and Medications
The building will be available for students to pick up items from their classrooms or lockers from 10:00am - 6:00pm. If you are unable to pick up your medications during this time, please call our office at 740-201-2200 and we will make arrangements for your medications to be picked up at a different time.

Computers and Hot Spots
We have been working with our families who do not have computers or hot spots at home. For those families, computers and hot spots can also be picked up between 11:00am - 6:00pm on Monday. If you cannot make it to DACC between 11:00am and 6:00pm on Monday, we will contact you and make arrangements to get these materials to you.

When you arrive to pick up materials, medications, or computers and hot spots, please enter door A and report to the high school office. Reference this map for directions.

Meals
We are working with our associate districts to make sure that every student who relies and free and reduced lunch will be fed. Please contact your home district or check their web site to find out where meal pick-up locations will be.

Remote Learning Time Commitments
Many parents have asked us what the time commitment for their students should be while they are learning remotely. Our administrators will provide general expectations to all students by the end of the day tomorrow (3/16) with more information about what to expect.

Work Based Learning
We will work one-on-one with our students who are participating in Work Based Learning. The Ohio Department of Education is providing flexibility for these students and we will work with each student individually.

Personal Touchpoints
Over the next two days, we will also be working with our teachers and guidance counselors to make sure every student is personally contacted over this period of time that students are home. Our goal is to help you and your student thrive in your student's education, emotional well-being, and mental health.

With new information coming out daily, please make sure you have the most up-to-date news on our COVID-19 Information page on the DACC web site.

Information specifically about the COVID-19 situation can be found with the Center for Disease Control and the Delaware General Health District:

This is an unprecedented time for all of us and I appreciate my staff, all of our students, and our families for the work everyone is doing to support each other. Take care of each other and take care of yourselves. In the meantime, we will continue to update you with more information as we have it.

Sincerely,

Mary Beth Freeman
