Day for Waste Collections Changed to Wednesday
Recently, all households in Long Grove received a postcard from Waste Management (WM) announcing a change beginning August 1 in the service day for waste collection. In the past, refuse and recycling were picked up on Mondays or Fridays, depending on location in the Village. Rather than two separate pickup days, residents will now have weekly service on Wednesdays. As a reminder, WM suggests waste containers be set out by the roadside on the day of collection by 6 a.m. For residents who have yard waste pickup, the final service date this year is November 30.

Please note: As part of the agreement between Long Grove and WM, all households are automatically enrolled and billed for collection services – no exceptions are granted.  WM provides residents with useful guidelines on trash collection and recycling of various materials, including yard waste and bulky items. For any questions, or to request a waste container repair or replacement, call WM at 800-964-8988.
Road Rejuvenation Project Planned
The Village Board recently approved a project to use an asphalt sealant on several Village roads to help extend roadway life by five to seven years. This sealant prevents moisture from penetrating the asphalt and helps to preserve durability. The process involves preparing the road surface, applying the sealant, applying a thin layer of sand to prevent the sealant from tracking on vehicles, and sweeping the sand away after the sealant is dry. The project is expected to be completed later this year, and will include the following roads: Indian Creek Road, Schaeffer Road, Roanoke Court, Dawn Court, Arlington Heights Road, Robert Parker Coffin Road and Cuba Road. Timing, schedules and other information on this project will be provided in future communications.

10-Day Tax Savings for Back-to-School Shopping
Starting tomorrow, August 5, sales taxes will be temporarily reduced by 5% for certain purchases until August 14. A new Illinois Family Relief Plan lowers the tax rate from 6.25% to 1.25% for clothes, footwear and school supplies, which can help families with back-to-school shopping costs. Information on qualified items can be found here. Other tax relief includes the sales tax on groceries being suspended until July 2023, and the motor fuel tax will remain the same for the rest of this year.
