Located in Murrieta, the Chapman house shows how beautiful drought tolerant landscaping can be and how this landscaping can work in a newer tract home. The Chapman landscape was planted in 2020 and was designed and installed by the homeowner. Get inspired at inlandempirelandscapecontest.com.

KNOWING YOUR WATER BUDGET WILL HELP YOU STAY WATER WISE DURING THE DROUGHT
California is in a serious drought, and we don’t know how long it will last. That’s why every drop saved today counts. Small changes inside and outside your home can have a big impact on your annual household water use.

Did you know that up to 60% of your annual water use is outside your home? That’s why it is important to know how much water you can save by being more efficient outdoors.

Parts of Southern California are under mandatory outdoor watering restrictions, however EMWD’s residential customers are NOT currently impacted. EMWD is asking customers to remain within their water budgets and focus their efficiency efforts on outdoor irrigation.

Get to know your water budget. Knowing your water budget will help you remain efficient during the drought. That is why EMWD’s MyAccount portal provides a water budget estimator each month. By helping you project what your water budget will be, we are able to help you remain within it -- which saves water and money.

BACK TO SCHOOL: BE SURE TO INCLUDE A REUSABLE WATER BOTTLE WITH YOUR SUPPLIES
As you wrap-up your back-to-school shopping, EMWD encourages you to add a reusable water bottle to your student’s school supply list.

EMWD has Water Bottle Fill Stations at 114 schools throughout its 558-square mile service area, allowing students to easily and safely refill their reusable bottles with clean and reliable tap water.

EMWD’s award-winning Water Bottle Fill Station program has helped save the equivalent of several hundred thousand disposable plastic bottles from entering landfills. As California continues to face water supply challenges, tap water is a great way to use less water. It takes at least twice as much water to produce the plastic bottle and the packaging than a disposable water bottle actually holds.

QUESTION:

How do I enroll in the turf replacement program?

ANSWER:

Removing turf grass is one of the most water saving adjustments a homeowner can make to reduce their water usage and associated costs.

EMWD customers are eligible for a rebate of $3.00 per square foot up to 5,000 square feet through The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD) Turf Replacement program—$2.00 from MWD and an additional $1.00 from EMWD.

The program is a two-part application process. In order to receive a rebate, you must first apply to reserve rebate funds prior to starting your project. After the reservation, you will have 180 days to complete the project and submit your request for a rebate.

Items to have ready before applying: 1) A copy of your recent water bill, 2) At least five color photos of the area where you plan to remove turf, 3) A simple landscape plan that shows the area to be transformed and location of your stormwater retention feature, i.e. rain garden, rain barrel, etc.

Please note, approval of rebate applications are on a first-come, first-serve basis and subject to funding availability. Submitting a reservation request or application does not guarantee approval or payment.
