Medications to Avoid in Heart Failure Patients
Certain medicines may cause clinical worsening in patients with heart failure. Follow the below guidelines to avoid further damage.
NSAIDs should not be used in all types of heart failure
Third generation calcium channel blockers such as amlodipine may be used for blood pressure control in heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF)
Other calcium channel blockers such as verapamil, diltiazem, and nifedipine should be avoided in patients with HFrEF
Routine use of nitrates should be avoided in patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF)
