Small Business & Our Neighborhoods: Reflections on Community, Resilience and Innovation
Friday, April 9, 4-5pm
Running a business under the most ideal conditions is difficult and 2020 brought on a host of previously unthinkable challenges for business owners, their employees, and the communities that support them. While the coronavirus pandemic has tested the entire business community, restaurants, shops, and companies in Allston-Brighton and Cambridge have offered countless examples of how creativity, resilience, and coordination are helping to preserve the vibrant mosaic of businesses that characterize both communities. Featuring leaders of small businesses and nonprofits, this panel discussion, led by Karen Gordon Mills, will examine how the local small business community has managed over the past year and consider what the future will look like.

Honoring Our COVID Heroes: The City of Cambridge COVID Response Team and Pfizer Kendall Square with the Carl F. Barron Catalyst for Change Award
“Strengthening our Community” will feature inspiring stories from some extraordinary members of the CASPAR community, an auction, and other surprises. The evening will culminate with the presentation of the Carl F. Barron Catalyst For Change Award to our "COVID Heroes" - The City of Cambridge COVID Response Team and Pfizer Kendall Square - in recognition of both honorees’ incredible efforts in response to the pandemic, as well as their longstanding contributions to CASPAR’s work.

A month-long Cambridge Cares for Students event.
Throughout May, CSV is hosting community gatherings and raising money for our programs. CSV programs support the academic and personal success of Cambridge Public School students. We invite the community to join us in celebrating our volunteers and community partners.

Walk for Hunger!
Sunday May 2nd
A long-loved event, Project Bread’s Walk For Hunger has helped provide over 1 billion meals to hungry people and has been a vehicle to raise funds to support and expand community solutions to hunger throughout the state. Through Project Bread's Commonwealth Program, 60% of the money raised by the Food For Free Team will go directly to Food For Free. The other 40% will go to the Walk Fund which helps fund food programs across the state.

Our Mission: Food For Free improves access to healthy food within our community by rescuing food that would otherwise go to waste, strengthening the community food system, and creating new distribution channels to reach under-served populations. Food For Free envisions a future where everyone in our community—regardless of age, income or ability—has consistent access to fresh, healthy, delicious food.
There is no registration fee or fundraising minimum required. Please spread the word to family and friends...all are welcome to join Team Food For Free and raise funds. Because of the virtual nature of the event, you can really do whatever you would like...walk, run, ride a bike, dance...it's up to you!

We will celebrate the achievements of our Developmental Disabilities Program and share the very special story of one family's journey raising and supporting their now-adult son with developmental disabilities. Since 1985, José Mateo Ballet Theatre’s Summer Intensive Program has helped thousands of hard-working young dancers quickly make critical breakthroughs in their dancing and public performance abilities. Every student discovers previously unseen potential and achieves unexpected levels of technical skill and artistic expression.
The performance-focused program offers a comprehensive curriculum of:

Signet Summer Course Sign Up
In the summer of 2020, Signet Education's Ready, Prep, Go! was a huge success where students were provided with the tools, skills, and perspectives needed to enable them to power through any learning environment. So we're bringing it back this year! With two 2-hour sessions per week, students will receive focused instruction and mentorship with highly-qualified educators. Planting for BeeFeed
HSBA member and friend, Kevin Tyler, has started BeeFeed using the planters on Mass. Ave. in front of the Harvard Coop and Bank of America and is soon expanding to the planters on Brattle Square.
Kevin has planted growth nutrients and will begin to churn the soils soon. He anticipates planting seeds by April 20th. The seeds will be planted 6 inches from the edge of the soil beds. Later in the year, he will like to request the help of local businesses for coffee grounds to naturally provide nutrients the flower beds and maybe the occasional water can refill.

Performing at the age of 5, stage managing at 14, teaching at 18, PR & Marketing at 20, and Company Managing by 25. With great stints at Next Move Theatre, Copley Square Ballet, I only really learned how it all worked together by working for more than 15 years with (David) Balsom and Associates, one of Boston’s best boutique PR and Marketing companies.
