Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA)
Reduces Tuition 10% for the
2020-2021 School Year

Other New Mexico Colleges Raise Tuition for Upcoming Year -
Some More Than 20%

SANTA FE, NM - May 20. 2020

IAIA announced today a 10% decrease in tuition for the 2020-2021 academic year. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, IAIA has made this decrease to make it easier for students to continue their education towards an Associate's or Bachelor's degree.

For those current and potential students who may face challenges due to low quality or total lack of connectivity to the Internet, IAIA is committed to offering assistance through loaned laptops/tablets, aid for enhanced Internet services, or increase data plans of mobile phones.

It is important for current IAIA students and those that are considering registering at IAIA to know that s tudies have shown that students who complete their degree program in four years have a greater degree of career success than students who take five or more years to finish--and many students who don't complete their program in four years are less likely to receive their degree for a variety of reasons. IAIA is doing everything to assist students so that they don't lose any time in their quest for a degree.

Research also indicates that students are more likely to get better grades, improve their financial state (by getting into the workplace sooner)and provides more options for the student's immediate future -- by finishing on time, students have more life choices.

The 10% reduction in tuition:

Current  IAIA Full-time student tuition - $2,470/semester
Discounted rate for Academic Year 2020-2021 - $2,223/semester
Current hourly tuition rate - $206/hour
Discounted rate for Academic Year 2020-2021 - $185/hour

These costs also include all required textbooks.

The new rates will commence with the 2020-2021 Academic year, which begins August 17, 2020. There is no application needed to receive the decreased rate.

It is important to note that IAIA discounting tuition is contrary to what most other institutions of higher learning are doing around the country. IAIA has taken what was already an extraordinary value for a quality education and made it even more attractive.

The 2016 IAIA Graduating Class

I AIA President Dr. Robert Martin  (Cherokee)  had this to say about the  tuition-reduction: "During these challenging times, promoting student success is essential so that our graduates can return home with the education and skill-sets to strengthen their Indigenous communities."
