JVC Northwest’s Partnership with AmeriCorps has a Widespread Impact
Have you ever wondered why we partner with AmeriCorps? JVC Northwest has been in partnership with AmeriCorps for over a decade, and we recently received word that our capacity building grant will be renewed for another three years! We’d like to take this opportunity to share with our community more about what makes our partnership with AmeriCorps so special.

JVC Northwest’s partnership with AmeriCorps helps advance our mission in two main ways:

  • Lowering fees for partner agencies to host a JV AmeriCorps member
  • Lowering and eliminating barriers for volunteers

But there's a lot more to it than that! Read all about the ways AmeriCorps helps to strengthen the mission of JVC Northwest in our latest blog post.
2022-23 Locale Announcement
We wish to announce that we will not be hosting a JV community in Hood River, OR this upcoming service year. As community living is an important aspect of a JV year, our practice is to move forward with a JV community only when there are a minimum of three JVs. Unfortunately, this year we did not have enough JVs placed with partner agencies in Hood River to make it a viable community.

We are so grateful to all the FJVs who have served in Hood River throughout the years, and we remain committed to co-creating a more just and equitable world throughout Oregon and the Pacific Northwest.

JVC Northwest Recommends
In honor of July being Disability Pride Month, this month's recommendations are on the topic of disability-justice.

Disability Visibility
Edited by Alice Wong

"Disability Visibility is a fantastic resource for disabled and able-bodied folks alike. The stories in the book made me feel seen as a disabled person. I felt a kinship to the story tellers with the ableism and lack of access we face on a daily basis. For the able-bodied folks who might read this, you can expect a new level of understanding of the lives of disabled people, the ways both visible and invisible disabilities are treated harmfully, and the obstacles placed in front of disabled folks on a daily basis."
- Kelsey Leonard, Director of Major Gifts

Care Work
By Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha

Care Work is a mapping of access as radical love, a celebration of the work that sick and disabled queer/people of color are doing to find each other and to build power and community, and a toolkit for everyone who wants to build radically resilient, sustainable communities of liberation where no one is left behind.
