Rankin to Teach NEA Big Read Book—
“The Round House”
OLLI Instructor Janet Rankin will lead a book group that discusses this year’s National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Big Read book, “The Round House” by Louise Erdrich. The discussion class starts on Wednesday, February 10th from 10 am to Noon. If this OLLI section is full another will be added (see Special Interest Sessions on the OLLI at Sierra College website).

Rankin is excited about this course because of the many opportunities for students to explore Native America life and culture since this book is the national choice for many communities. The book is about a young boy on a reservation in North Dakota. “It weaves together family relationships, friendships, Native American life and tribal law,” notes Rankin, a former elementary school teacher, now in her 7th year of teaching for Sierra College.

“The Round House” is also the Nevada County Reads selection for this year. They have many events planned at www.mynevadacounty.com then click Library.
