Wellness Tip of the Week
Volunteering for Mental Health

Volunteering provides opportunities for social connections, new life skills, and motivation. Volunteering not only helps the community but offers mental health wellbeing aspects as well. Helping others and being part of something bigger than yourself helps to maintain and improve mental health. If you have never tried volunteering before now is as good of a time as any, as many people are experiencing hardships from the pandemic. Volunteers are stepping up in many new ways to ensure we all make it through this together.

Outdoor Physical Activities to Try:

Nebraska state park and recreation are celebrating 100 years! They have planned 100 centennial events across Nebraska for 2021. These events will highlight special firsts throughout the state’s park systems. Check out their website designed specifically for their centennial celebration for dates of all upcoming events.

One major event you won’t want to miss for the centennial celebration will be held at Chadron State Park the weekend of June 11th through the 12th. The weekend will include a food truck rally, wine tasting, annual Run for the Hills 5k, canoe regatta, family games and activities, live music, and more.

Looking for something a little sooner? To celebrate Women’s Month the firearm and archery ranges at Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center in Lincoln will be hosting a lady’s night on Tuesday evenings for the month of March. It is advertised as great for those wanting more practice, advice, or comradery from 5:00pm-7:00pm.

In Iowa you can find beautiful trail systems that link with the caves, limestone formations, and scenic overlooks. At Maquoketa Cave State Park you can also visit their interpretive center for some park history on weekends beginning in the middle of April from 9am-5pm.
