Dottke Project-Based Learning High School’s Aquaponics Lab Is Now Up and Running
Transforming physical spaces to promote authentic learning experiences for all students, things are busy at Dottke Project-Based High School. One such renovation began during the 2019-20 school year, turning the boys locker room into an Aquaponics Lab, named “The Cove.”
According to Principal, Greg Goelz, “Aquaponics is the utilization of fish to generate fertilizer for the growing of crops. One of our retired teachers, Peter Kraker, has taken the lead on our Aquaponics Lab project. Read more...

Planning Underway for End-of-Year Events!
We are working hard to plan for some key events that help recognize and celebrate students as they finish out the school year. We feel fortunate that with adjustments we can safely provide these experiences again. We continue to work closely with our health department so our plans mirror mitigation procedures we are using in school.

Starting the Conversation
In education, the term ‘equity’ refers to many things but central is the fact that all students and staff have a voice and that voice is heard and respected. Equity also refers to the fundamental principle of fairness. Inequities occur when biased or unfair policies, programs, practices, or situations contribute to a lack of equality in educational performance, results, and outcomes. Registration for Action Begins March 15
Child Care Options For 4k-5th Grade
WAWM RCS will begin taking registrations for AM Action (before school) and Action 330 (after school) at all eleven elementary schools. (AM Action and Action 330 is available every day school is in session. Registration opens Monday, March 15, 2020 at 8:00 a.m. and the deadline to register is Thursday, March 18, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. to start March 22, 2021.
Due to limited school space, mitigation strategies and staffing availability, registration is on a first come first serve basis. More information HERE.

West Allis Nathan Hale and Central Present... The Radio Play Disaster
Self-proclaimed genius Harlan Bean is ready to make history with his science-fiction radio masterpiece Battle of the Planets. But when the broadcast is in the hands of an ambitious actress with her own vision for her character, several terrified last-minute replacements jumping in, and a disgruntled sound engineer out for revenge, the mayhem in the studio makes an alien invasion look like a piece of cake. Radio goes hilariously off the rails in this flexible piece.
The Radio Play Disaster will be performed on March 19 & 20 at 7:00 p.m. in radio play format with 40s-style costumes and a radio studio set. The performance will be livestreamed to the comfort of your own homes! Read more...

FREE Food Distribution
Layton Avenue Baptist Church in Greenfield Wisconsin is cooperating with "Farmers to families" to distribute free fresh food to people in our community.
Date: Thursday, March 18, 2021
Time: 2:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Location: Layton Avenue Baptist Church
9600 W. Layton Ave., Greenfield, WI.
People will assist with putting the food in vehicles. All are welcome to come and get a 30-pound box of fresh food.

In-Person Students & Bus Transportation
Students that receive bus transportation have been notified via postcard twice this year. If your child is returning to school for the first time on March 22, 2021 and you have questions about bus transportation, please contact the West Allis-West Milwaukee School District at (414) 604-3043 or (414) 604-3014.
Be reminded that face masks are required for all students riding the bus. Students should be at the bus stop 10 minutes before morning pick-up. At the end of the day, students will be dropped off within ten minutes of the time listed. Bus Transportation Video

West Allis Central High School’s Black Student Union Hosts Numerous Events During Black History Month
Throughout the month of February, the West Allis Central Black Student Union planned and staged a series of successful community events to promote understanding, unity, and the power of partnership.
According to student founder and president, senior Zoe King, “We aim to do this by providing a safe and educational space for all students to engage in discussions pertaining to the Black community, promoting a positive image of Black people through social engagement, and empowering our members." Students and Leaders Present at the Wisconsin Chapter of the American String Teacher Association Virtual Expo
On Saturday, January 23, 2021, Wisconsin Chapter of the American String Teacher Association (WI-ASTA) held an all-day Virtual Expo for orchestra and string teachers across the state. New this year was the virtual setting which allowed teachers from out of state to participate as well. While attendees participated in sessions about music technique and teaching strategies, the expo also featured presentations on topics such as cultural diversity, Mindfulness, and social-emotional learning. FACT TEAM Meeting
Our District held its third FACT TEAM meeting on Tuesday, February 23, 2021. Over 65 representatives composed of parents, staff and community members were present on ZOOM. The meeting, which was led by Bray Architects, CG Schmidt, and District leaders, began with an introduction of master plan framework parameters. After reviewing the framework parameters, the committee was introduced to, and reviewed, the first round of long-range facility pathways, breaking into groups to discuss each. Read more...

Meal Distribution for the Remainder of the 2020-2021 School Year
Begins Wednesday March 24, 2021
In partnership with Sodexo, free, healthy grab and go meals will be available for any child up to 18 years old. Children do not need to be enrolled in our District or live in the communities we serve to be eligible. Parents or children can drive-through or walk-up to get meals from any site. - Meal pick-up is on Wednesday each week (including the week of spring break).
- All VIRTUAL students are eligible for seven meals.
- All Elementary IN-PERSON students are eligible for two meals.
- All Secondary IN-PERSON students are eligible for three meals.

WAWM RCS Open Gym
What program gives adults and youth an opportunity to be physically active, create new friendships and take a great mental break from the stress of daily life? Open Gym!
“Our Open Gym programs offer more benefits than participating in one specific sport,” explains Shelly Strasser. “Open Gym features a variety of programming from Pickleball, Badminton, Volleyball to Basketball. Whether you are experienced or a beginner, our Open Gym activities are geared to all skill levels.”
"The Open Pickleball opportunity has been a breath of fresh air during the past year. Being able to get out of the house, be physically active and play a sport I enjoy, safely, has been much needed. The amazing new gymnasium and rec facility gives myself and others a sense of pride for the community,” said a community member and active adult Pickleball participant.
“Open gym means variety and fun,” adds Strasser. “There is no better time to get active!”

T-Ball, Rookies and Soccer Registration
WAWM RCS is excited to announce the return of the following sports leagues this summer: T-Ball, Rookies and Soccer! Registration begins March 15, 2021. League play begins in early June. The child’s grade level is based on the 2020-21 school year for summer participation. All players are assigned to a team, practice and play a game each week, and each participant receives a league t-shirt. More information HERE.

Skyward is the tool that helps parents view student schedules, attendance, and grade reports while logged in on any personal device! We ask that parents access Skyward to track their child’s progress in school (we only print paper records upon request).
It also allows for increased communication with teachers. It is very important that parents maintain accurate telephone numbers and email addresses on Skyward.
