Dear St. John's Community,
I get an afternoon daily email from the Washington Post, and as I scrolled down the email today I saw the faces of St. John's parishioners Liz Johnson and Jon Kosobucki in a happy article about their virtual wedding on April 25th!
I would have presided at the service, but coronavirus got in the way. They were able to arrange to have a civil service in front of their home with plans for a church blessing sometime in the future. Sarah and I attended their wedding from the couch in our basement (pictured below).
These are the sorts of things that lift my spirits during this time. You can see in the look on their faces how the joy of the day was undiminished in spite of all odds. You can read the Post story and see more photos
here. In it Liz shares about their honeymoon (which was in their backyard) saying:
"Spending the first few days of our honeymoon scrolling through photos of our families and friends celebrating us with bottles of champagne while dressed in suits and dresses in their living rooms brought us a joy we never would have imagined. We get to step outside every morning onto the very spot where one of the happiest moments of our lives took place."
These are trying times, but there will be unexpected blessings along the way. Thank you Liz and Jon for sharing yours. Congratulations!
God's peace,
Rob+
