Community Newsletter July 18, 2022 Volume 6 Issue 3

Greetings Community Members –

I want to start by thanking everyone that attended our Lone Star College-Houston North Community Block Party that was held at our Fallbrook location. It was a wonderful family fun event that included food, games, comedy, and music that was free for the entire community. I want to especially thank Houston’s own comedy superstar, Chinedu, for providing family-friendly comedy and Best Entertainers Company for all of the children’s activities, and La Cocina De Roberto for the wonderful food. We enjoy supporting local businesses and appreciate the services that they provide.

As much as I enjoyed the event, what I most enjoyed were the community members that stopped to ask me about the educational opportunities that Lone Star College offers. I met a single mother, that brought her son to the event for the games, but she expressed interest in learning about GED classes. Another lady that I met was interested in Lone Star College’s truck driving program so she can get more job opportunities.

While there is always a lot of attention during this time of year on the recruitment efforts of recent high school graduates, I also want to stress that Lone Star College is a great option for individuals that want to return to college after time off, interested in attaining new skills/credentials that will enable better employment options, or have decided to pursue higher academic achievement later on in life.

If you or anyone you know is interested in pursuing higher education here are a few reasons as to why Lone Star College is a great fit for you:

Lone Star College has over 200+ degree programs with several offered at LSC-Houston North locations (Fairbanks, Fallbrook, Greenspoint, Victory).

Lone Star College is one of the most affordable options in the area. Students pursuing baccalaureate degrees can earn two years of credit at a cost that is less than one semester at many local universities. Click here for LSC tuition and fees.

Half of all Lone Star College-Houston North students received some form of financial aid to cover their costs.

There are currently several opportunities available including the Acres Homes Chamber Workforce Development Grant and the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning construction trades grant.

For more information, contact HN-Workforce@LoneStar.edu or our Financial Aid department to learn more about the FASFA and other scholarship opportunities.

Lone Star College is dedicated to addressing barriers, outside of the classroom, that may hinder college attainment.

Therefore, we have several student resources including mental health counseling, food insecurity initiatives, laptop loaner program, and mentoring initiative.
