Town of Cornelius Takes Precautions Amid Growing
COVID-19 Concerns
As concern about the COVID-19 outbreak continues to grow, the Town of Cornelius is taking proactive steps to help keep our community safe.

Town officials have made adjustments to several Town meetings, programs, activities and events as outlined below.
Cancellations & Changes
MODIFIED: Town Board of Commissioners Meeting - Monday, March 16
We plan to hold the Town Board meeting with minimal staff. The meeting will still be open to the public and attendees have the option of viewing the meeting virtually as well. In-person attendees are encouraged to practice 'social distancing' throughout the meeting.
CANCELED: Cornelius Arts Center Community Meeting - Wednesday, March 18
The community meeting to discuss the Cornelius Arts Center's transition to the Cain Center for the Arts has been canceled . The public is encouraged to submit questions and feedback via email at TownofCornelius@Cornelius.org .

The transition planning team will review and respond to the emails, and depending on the feedback received, a community meeting may be rescheduled for a later time.
CANCELED: Mecklenburg County Park & Rec Public Meeting - Friday, March 20
The public meeting at Town Hall to discuss the Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Master Plan (aka Meck Playbook) as been postponed until further notice. A new date and location will be announced as decisions are made.
CANCELED: Community Shred Event - Saturday, March 21
The community shred event has been postponed until further notice. Event sponsors (the Cornelius Police Department, Truliant Federal Credit Union and Shred-IT) will announce a new date as decisions are made.
CANCELED: Citizen Board and Committee Meetings
All citizen board and committee meetings will be cancelled until further notice. This includes the following upcoming meetings:

  • Friday, March 27 - Architectural Review Board Meeting

  • Wednesday, April 2 - PARC Commission Meeting

Additional information will be provided about future meetings as decisions are made.
CANCELED: PARC Programs, Events & Activities
All PARC programming is cancelled through April 5. This includes all special events, arts and fitness classes, and athletic and recreation programs sponsored by the Cornelius PARC Department.

PARC will issue pro rata credit for all programming, as applicable. The team will continue to assess the situation and consider modifications to programs beyond April 5 in the coming days.

In the meantime, our parks are open and maintenance staff has increased restroom cleaning techniques to provide better sanitation.

Town officials are closely monitoring this rapidly changing situation, and will continue to align with the direction provided by government and public health authorities.

As such, Town officials will continue to evaluate meetings and events scheduled for the next 8 weeks, including the budget workshop planned for March 25 - 26. We will share additional information in the days to come.

Cornelius residents are encouraged to stay abreast of the rapidly evolving situation via reliable sources including the  Centers for Disease Control and Prevention   (CDC), the  NC DHHS   and the  Mecklenburg County Public Health Department  (MCPH).
