10:00 AM Holy Eucharist at St. Stephen's

Dear friends,
Are you doing anything special this 4th of July? I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been asked that question in the last two days. Personally, I am not. It’s my day off, and I’ve opted for the low-key, stay-at-home, do-nothing day. But I am not ignoring it either.
While I am not happy about a lot of things going on in our country right now, I do like that our democracy holds freedom as a core value, whether we are or are not demonstrating that right now.
Music touches our hearts in ways that speeches, or posters, or symbols can’t. Here are two music videos that refer to freedom from two perspectives. I hope they will touch your heart this 4th of July.
The first is the National Anthem beautifully performed by the U.S. Army Chorus. Notice the last line of the 1st verse. “For the land of the free, and the home of the brave.” It was written at a time when the when British troops set fire to the Capitol in the war of 1812. It became the National Anthem in 1931.
The second is found in the “Lift Every Voice and Sing” hymnal published in 1993 by the Church Hymnal Corporation as a supplement to The Hymnal 1982. It is known as the Black National Anthem. The Stanford Talisman Alumni Virtual Choir gave a stunning performance of the hymn in 2019.
May we pray and work for the freedom of all people!
Blessings and peace,
Karen+

NEEDING PRAYER SUPPORT?
Prayer is one of those things we often think about, might feel inadequate about, believe in but might be unsure how to proceed. How we pray is sometimes unique to each of us. The Church provides help in many ways. If you find yourself in need, of any kind (emotional, physical, spiritual, guidance, etc) consider how St. Stephen's can support you:
* there is a prayer chain of committed pray-ers (who maintain confidentiality).
* tell people about your answers to prayer! and the miracles you witness, or how prayer changes YOU.
Please submit prayer requests to Rev. Karen.
