A NOTE FROM THE LIBRARY DIRECTOR
Dear Community,

At the May 4 City Council Meeting, the City Council supported a new "Three R's" plan to take actions to help our community thrive now and emerge more quickly from the COVID-19 pandemic.

What are the Three R's?

Respond to immediate community needs resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, with particular care for seniors and vulnerable residents

Restore community cultural, economic, and social vitality in partnership with community organizations and businesses

Reimagine public services in light of evolving community needs and financial resources

As a City department, the Library has played a major role in the Three R's efforts, and is working closely with other City departments on recovery and future services planning. We take pride in our ability to reimagine library service in response to these changing times and our community's needs. Below is a list of some of our efforts.

CELEBRATING PASIFIKA
Our Library Takeover program, Celebrate Pasifika: A Pacific Islander Heritage Celebration , would have taken place on May 16th. While we had to postpone the festival due to the library closure, we are happy to honor our Celebrate Pasifika partners and Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. A local Tongan resident,
Seini Kaufusi, was gracious enough to share a special message to everyone sheltering in place and on the front lines via her Art of Tau'olunga Langakali 'o e Vai ko Puna video here. Another partner in the event is Kawika Alfiche of Halau o Keikiali'i, a master hula instructor. Enjoy this video of hula dancers from around the globe dancing to Kawika Alfiche's "Ho'i Hou Mai." Lastly, if you are looking to learn more, browse this list of eBooks, eAudiobooks, and videos about the history and culture of Pacific Islanders.
