BAC Talk: News for Partners & Friends — November 2021
Greetings!

What is YOUR why?

What drives your commitment to preventing foodborne illnesses?

This is a question that I have been asked a lot recently. For me, it began in 2011, the moment I saw Barbara Kowalcyk on my TV screen. I was watching a film on the food system when I learned of the devastating loss of her son Kevin to a foodborne illness. I couldn’t go back. I became determined to prevent as many illnesses as possible just like you.

After getting to know and working with our 13,000 BAC Fighters during the last few years, my personal commitment to food safety has deepened. These health and food safety educators routinely express their deep desire to keep their communities healthy and safe from foodborne illnesses.

Did you know that 76% of BAC Fighters surveyed said that it is important to them to have industry involved in consumer food safety education? This sentiment was explored more, wanting to better understand why this is important. This is what was learned: BAC Fighters view themselves as an extension of your hard work in food safety, helping households know their role in food safety.

Having Partners like you, representing the food industry, scientific associations, federal agencies, and consumer groups involved in consumer food safety education, sends a signal to BAC Fighters that they are not alone.

BAC Fighters want to support you and your food safety efforts, completing the chain of prevention.

While you are addressing supply chain challenges, workforce development, COVID-19 protocols and mandates, and advancing scientific development and research, PFSE is making sure that BAC Fighters have what they need to complete the chain of prevention, such as the free resources highlighted below.

Thank you for recognizing BAC Fighters as your teammates in food safety. Learn more about their work and see how they put PFSE resources to use in their communities.

Thank you for making it possible to serve BAC Fighters with science-based resources, keeping them free to access.

With gratitude,
Britanny Saunier
