Announcing the 10th Head of School at The Colorado Springs School
Dear The Colorado Springs School Community,

On behalf of The Colorado Springs School Board of Trustees and the Head of School Search Committee, we are honored and delighted to announce the unanimous selection of Tambi Tyler as The Colorado Springs School's next Head of School.

Tambi Tyler is student-centered and institutionally-minded, bringing a passion for academics, arts, and athletics. She embraces experiential education and is a dynamic and visionary innovator that is ready to lead The Colorado Springs School into our next era.

Ms. Tyler has been a key member of the leadership team at  Atlanta International School (AIS), a prestigious and highly ranked I.B. World School. Currently, she is Upper School   Principal and Deputy Head of Secondary, leading 700 students in grades 6-12 at AIS. After a nearly 20-year career in Des Moines Public Schools, she rose from teacher's aid to middle school Vice Principal.

Her experience in multi-age academic environments has fully prepared Tambi to guide The Colorado Springs School forward in an evolving educational landscape. Ms. Tyler holds a B.A., from Grand View University, Secondary English Education and a M.S., from Drake University, Effective Teacher Learning Leadership. Tambi has also just completed the National Association of Independent Schools Fellowship for Aspiring School Heads.

Tambi has two children, a son (20) in Atlanta and a daughter (23) in Des Moines. Joining Tambi in Colorado Springs will be her adorable and loyal Schnauzer, Shadow.

Hiring Ms. Tyler as the school's 10th Head of School is the culmination of an extensive, transparent, and inclusive international search process. We would like to thank the board, faculty, parents, staff, students, alumni, and community members who aided and informed our search process.

The Head of School Search Committee reviewed more than 300 feedback evaluations, provided thorough reference interviews, and spent many hours with each candidate in both formal and informal settings. And while all three finalists were well-qualified, Ms. Tyler was the clear choice and unanimously selected by the CSS Board of Trustees.

Without a doubt, the process of the Head Search reaffirmed the enduring values of the school and its mission. Alumni, parents, current and past faculty/staff, grandparents, and students resoundingly know that our school has the capacity to not only prepare students for a dynamic world but to transform lives --- the lives of students and families. In the early 1960s, the founding Board of Trustees hired Margaret White Campbell, an innovative educator influenced by her teacher and mentor, John Dewey. Ms. Campbell brought a cutting-edge philosophy of experiential education to Colorado Springs coupled with a college-preparatory education delivered by a determined and dedicated faculty. For nearly 60 years, CSS has blended tradition and innovation.

The announcement of Tambi Tyler marks the beginning of a new and exciting era of excellence for The Colorado Springs School.

Please join us in welcoming Tambi Tyler to our community and of course join us in thanking Aaron Schubach over the next few months as he completes his sixth year as Head of School. Tambi will start on July 1, 2020.

Sincerely,

Board President
