A Note from the 8 Black Hands
Bold Call to Action
"We feel blessed to have been able to visit Little Rock, AR. Thank you, The Reform Alliance and the community members who hosted us and shared their experiences with us.
I would challenge all of us who claim to stand for children and their rights to a quality educational experience and accelerated student outcomes to consistently and determinedly put students first. All child advocates must live up to the words of Ernest Green, “We wanted to widen options for ourselves, and later for our children.”
We stand on the shoulders of legends like Annie Abrams and the teenagers of the Little Rock Nine who have led and lit the way to a better future for marginalized communities. The blood-stained banner for educational justice that these heroes entrusted to us is to be hoisted high and unfalteringly advanced.
We all stand on the shoulders of Little Rock’s heroes, but we can only honor their legacy and the roads they paved by continuously fighting for access, opportunity, and educational justice for all our youth and communities. This includes unmitigated access to a continuum of quality school choices that parents decide upon and we collectively hold accountable – schools like ScholarMade Achievement Place. Anything less viciously betrays this city’s claims to the Little Rock Nine legacy and is truly abominable." - 8 Black Hands
