Anticipation Builds for 40th Caribbean Travel Marketplace
The Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) is reporting that registration for the highly anticipated 40th edition of Caribbean Travel Marketplace is outpacing expectations as regional suppliers and global buyers prepare for a return to in-person business development activities in the Caribbean this fall. Slated for San Juan, Puerto Rico, from Oct. 3 to 5 this year, Caribbean Travel Marketplace Chair Karen Whitt reported that systems are "gearing up beautifully" for the upcoming meeting, mirroring the surging traveler demand for visiting Caribbean destinations. "The Caribbean is still one of the world’s most desirable destinations and we are looking forward to the convergence of buyers and sellers of Caribbean tourism to advance the region’s recovery," she stated. Supporters of the Caribbean’s travel and tourism industry have an opportunity to "do good" and potentially "do well" by participating in an ongoing Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association Education Foundation (CHTAEF) raffle to help provide scholarships and training for the region’s hospitality professionals. Support of fundraising activities allows the foundation to create new training programs and educational opportunities such as the new Professional Development Program, and the soon-to-be-launched Staff Empowerment Training Program.

The Certified Fundamentals Cook (CFC) is a six-month certification program for beginners. The program combines hands-on learning and immersive industry experience using a learn-by-doing approach in the program’s on-campus restaurant. The CFC program will provide the guidance and experience needed to work in a food service setting under the direct supervision of a chef and culinary instructor. Gain the practical experience, knowledge, skills and insight into the food-service occupation with the final goal of testing for and obtaining the American Culinary Federation Certification.
