The Office of International Affairs launches the Global Engagement Certificate Program

The Office of International Affairs' Global Engagement Certificate Program is a new opportunity for Ohio State students to enhance their college experience while becoming global citizens. By participating, students will be exposed to cultural perspectives different from their own and will develop the skills and confidence needed to communicate with others from different cultural backgrounds while fostering meaningful interactions and relationships. Students must indicate their intent to pursue the certificate by October 16.

Red Ants with Pergentino José

The Center for Latin American Studies at the University of Utah presents: Welcoming Zapotec Narratives into the classroom: A session for educators with Pergentino José, author of Red Ants.
This special session (Sept. 22) with Zapotec author, Pergentino José, is an opportunity for educators to discuss strategies for incorporating Zapotec and other indigenous narratives and themes into their teaching practice. This event will be in conducted in English with a Sierra Zapotec translator. Attendees are encouraged to engage with José’s writing prior to attending the session if possible. The Center for Latin American Studies will reimburse up to 20 teachers who purchase José’s title, Red Ants, directly through the publisher Deep Vellum. To qualify for reimbursement, you must submit the following to l.marzulli@utah.edu:

- Completed W9 Form
- Itemized receipt of Red Ants purchased from Deep Vellum

Global One Health Day 2020 Conference-Call for Abstracts
|
The Global One Health Day 2020 Conference (Nov. 5-7) will surround Strengthening Global Resilience Through One Health: A 2020 Vision for a Sustainable Future. The emergence of COVID-19 pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2 virus illustrates the need for continued and expanded intersectoral collaboration and knowledge to meet emerging threats. This conference aims to highlight the need for strengthened training, research and outreach capacity to address complex issues pertinent to human, animals, plants and the environment, foster collaboration for effective and sustained capacity building/strengthening, and showcase the diverse projects GOHi and global partners are working on to make an impact around the world.
The organizing committee is now accepting abstracts. Interested students, post-docs and early-career researchers/faculty are invited to submit. Abstracts are limited to 300 words and must report the results of original research pertinent to the subject matter. Abstracts related to session themes will be prioritized, but all One Health-related topics will be considered. Abstracts must be submitted by October 2.

Critical Language Scholarship 2021 Application Now Open!
|
Applications are now being accepted for the U.S. Department of State’s Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program for intensive language study abroad in summer 2021. The CLS Program is a fully-funded intensive overseas language and cultural immersion program for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at U.S. colleges and universities. Students spend eight to ten weeks abroad studying one of 15 critical languages, Portuguese included. Applications are due Tuesday, November 17, 2020 by 8:00pm EST.
