Reign of
Christ Sunday

Reign of Christ Sunday
Also called Christ the King Sunday, it is the feast celebrated in the Roman Catholic Church and the Lutheran Church on the last Sunday of the liturgical year. It celebrates Christ's messianic kingship and sovereign rule over all creation. The feast is unofficially celebrated in some Episcopal parishes, but it is not mentioned in the Episcopal calendar of the church year.

Hymn for Reign of Christ
Listen to this lovely hymn, “Hail, Thou Once Despised Jesus” which we will sing this Sunday.
The composer is John Bakewell (1757)

Scottish Prayer
Almighty God…
Sun behind all suns,
  soul within all souls…
Show to us in everything we touch and in everyone we meet
the continued assurance of thy presence round us,
lest ever we should think thee absent.
In all created things thou are there.
In every friend we have
the sunshine of thy presence is shown forth.
In every enemy that seems to cross our path,
thou art there within the cloud
  to challenge us to love.
Show to us the glory in the grey.
Awake for us thy presence in the very storm
till all our joys are seen as thee
and all our trivial tasks emerge as priestly sacraments
in the universal temple of thy love.
By the Rev. George MacLeod (ca. 1895-1991)

Adult Christian Education

We welcome Dr. Ray Buchanan to Christian Ed this Sunday. He has a fascinating presentation about Chartres Cathedral which was a major pilgrimage site. It houses the shroud reputed to have been worn by Mary at the birth of Jesus.  Dr. Buchanan was a history  teacher for 35 years with a specialization in European history and Art history. He comes highly recommended by the Trinity parishioners who heard his presentation at the Texas Tech Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI).

Meeting ID: 897 4445 4041
Passcode: 694851

See Rev. Nan’s last week’s class on Trinity’s YouTube channel. She presented on “Sacred Earth—Sacred Soul” by John Philip Newell, a book that looked at Celtic wisdom as articulated by a series of prophets from Pelagius on who were silenced by the Roman western church.  Newell looks afresh at their wisdom which he believes can help the earth heal.

11-28   Rev. Dave Sugeno will give an overview of the themes in Luke. Year C, which we will begin on the 1st Sunday of Advent uses the gospel of Luke in the Sunday liturgy. Dave does an excellent job of painting an overall picture of what messages about Jesus the writer of Luke is trying to convey. Hearing this overview will be an interesting and helpful backdrop to have as we enter the new church year and hear the gospel readings each week.
Sermon from Leesa Lewis
Those of you who were present for worship on November 14th, either in-person or virtually, were treated to a wonderful sermon from our seminarian Leesa Lewis, who took on a challenging text from the first book of Samuel. This was Leesa’s first sermon, and she did a great job! Her sermon, along with all recent sermons, can be viewed here: LINK:
Children’s Chapel
Parents or Grandparents, please plan to bring your children directly to the Children’s Chapel before the 10:30am service. They will be brought back to you at the Peace after getting to worship with age-appropriate prayers complete with hand motions and after hearing a Bible story. The Chapel leaders are looking forward to teaching your kids in person once again. Masks will be provided for any who are unvaccinated as we request that masks be worn to protect the children.
Elves for the Elderly
Older Adult Rural Services are collecting socks, slippers, toothpaste, lap blankets, coloring books, and crayons or colored pencils to distribute to seniors in our area. Please put your items in the large labeled box in the Narthex by December 6. Thank you!
CASA
Every year, our parish generously offers support to the abused and neglected children in our community served by CASA of the Highland Lakes. CASA is currently active in over 125 cases involving roughly 300 children. You can support a child in foster care by placing cash, a check (payable to CASA of the Highland Lakes), or a $25 gift card in the box in the narthex on or before Dec 5. Thank you for your help and generosity; your support is deeply appreciated.
United Thank Offering
Bring your UTO blue boxes containing your coins of thanksgiving to church this Sunday. Drop them into the basket in the narthex (foyer.) Then be sure to pick up a new box to start or continue this tangible spiritual tradition of offering our thanks to God for the many blessings we have received by sharing our spare change with those in need.
Communion in the Courtyard
For the past year, we have been worshiping in the courtyard on Tuesdays, using various forms of Morning Prayer. We are trying something new, and worshiping with Holy Communion on the first Tuesday of each month. This is a fairly short and informal service, and will use different kinds of worship and different Eucharistic Prayers. Our next Communion in the Courtyard will be on Tuesday, December 7th, at 9:00 am. We hope you will plan to join us!
Planning a Graceful Exit
Perhaps you’ve seen the fully updated Planning a Graceful Exit books in the Narthex. They are a gift to our parishioners from the Trinity Foundation Board of Directors and are meant to help in estate planning.

But they are so much more than that – intended to help your family know where everything is and what you wish them to do with it, legal considerations, power of attorney forms and medical directives, bequests and gifts, and much more.

Every family would benefit from the information. We invite you to take one.
