Learn ways to adapt and thrive in challenging circumstances, from Julia Samuel MBE, psychotherapist and author of This Too Shall Pass: Stories of Change, Crisis and Hopeful Beginning , in conversation with Mimi Drake, former Chair and Board Member of 100WF. Members may access a copy of her book or listen to the audio version here .

Some of the key topics include:

  • The importance of building quality relationships

This program is open to all global members as Part 1 of a three-part series and the virtual launch of the MidCareer Bridge Cayman location. The following two parts will be hosted by other 100WF committees across the world. You need not attend any of the other programs to benefit from participating in a single event.

Julia Samuel MBE

Julia was Psychotherapist for Pediatrics at St Mary's Hospital Paddington, the post she established in 1992, where her role for 25 years involved seeing families who have children or babies who die, and where she trained and supported the staff. In 1994 she worked to help launch and establish The Child Bereavement Charity, and as the The Founder Patron was involved and continues to be involved in many aspects of the charities work, having a key role in fundraising, strategy and training. In 2016 Julia was awarded an MBE in recognition of her services to bereaved children and in 2017 Middlesex University awarded her an Honorary Doctorate. In 2017 Julia published Grief Works which was a bestseller in the UK and has been published in 17 countries. She also has a private practice where she sees families and individuals for many different issues. Her roles include: Chairman Birthright (Wellbeing) (1992-5); Founder Patron the Child Bereavement Charity 1994+; Trustee Child Bereavement Charity 2008+; Tutor Metanoia Institute 1997-2008; Governor of British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (2001-2004); Vice President British Association Counselling and Psychotherapy Nov 2013+

Mimi Drake
Co-Chief Executive Officer, Permit Capital Advisors, LLC

Mimi Drake serves as Co-Chief Executive Officer of Permit Capital Advisors, LLC. She is responsible for the business functions of the firm, and she contributes to the sourcing and evaluation of investment opportunities. For six years prior to joining Permit Capital Advisors, LLC, Mimi served as the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer of Defiance Asset Management, LLC. She was responsible for the strategic planning, financial management, marketing, client service, legal, and human resources aspects of the firm, and she also served on the risk management committee. Earlier in her career, she spent five years at Miller Anderson & Sherrerd/ Morgan Stanley Institutional Asset Management, where she worked on both the marketing/client service and portfolio management sides of the business. Mimi received her M.B.A. in Finance from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 1995 and her B.A. in Economics from Trinity College (cum laude) in 1990. She attended Harvard University's Radcliffe Publishing Course in 1990 and spent three years in magazine publishing prior to Wharton. Mimi serves on the Board of Trustees at The Shipley School, Ben Franklin Technology Partners, and Drexel University’s Council for Energy and The Environment, the Corporate Boards of Hudson Global, Inc. (HSON), Verus LLC and the Advisory Board of Crazy Aaron’s Thinking Putty. She is also a Chairman Emerita of the Board of Directors of the 100 Women in Finance Association and Foundation. Mimi also serves as a panelist for Wharton’s Advanced Management Program’s Social Entrepreneurship Class.
