Commissioner Van Note invites MBTA members to discuss project additions and future outlook

MBTA is grateful that Governor Mills quickly deemed transportation construction as an essential industry in relation to the state's COVID-19 response plans. To maximize low traffic volumes while jump-starting the economy, MaineDOT recently announced the department is adding $33.6 million in capital projects to its 2020 Construction Advertisement Schedule. These projects have proposed advertise dates ranging from the end of May through July. Commissioner Bruce Van Note has invited MBTA members and other transportation-related associations to a ZOOM meeting to discuss these projects, the outlook for the coming year, and the importance of monitoring safety on MaineDOT projects. Governor Janet Mills will kick-off the meeting with welcome remarks.

Stay safe out there – MaineDOT urges crews to comply with companies’ safety plans

Safety measures in the time of COVID-19 are presenting challenges at construction work sites, but they are very important to keeping employees safe on the job.

MaineDOT is urging all of its contractors to review their COVID-19 safety plans with staff and work for full compliance on all MaineDOT work sites. It is absolutely important for crews to use face coverings when working or meeting within 6 feet of each other. MaineDOT has noted that it will be taking appropriate action at the project level to assure work site compliance.

As always, thanks to MBTA members for your ongoing support.
