A Message from Pastor Austin
My daughter will get her license in a week.

My hope is in Jesus.

This driving thing didn’t just happen. It has been a year of leaning for Kaylie, and a year of screaming, and crying for me.

Seriously though, Kaylie is a good driver and I look forward to next week, watching her drive off to school on her own. I will miss our drives together, but it’s time for the bird to drive out of the nest.

I remember our first drive together, we drove through a new neighborhood with very few homes and even fewer cars. We had open roads and plenty of intersections perfect for instruction. We covered the basics, “Gas pedal on the right, brake on the left ... always signal and brake with plenty of time." We talked about the dangers of turning too fast, and the deadly danger of turning the wrong way. Drive in the wrong lane and a head-on collision can kill you. I pointed this out again a month ago as she was driving in downtown Denver ... turn the wrong way, and it will be trouble guaranteed.

So often we turn toward sin instead of turning toward the Savior. We think we know a better route and head down the road. But repentance is a turning around, a turning from our sin. Our Lord tells us to leave sin in our rear-view mirror, and turn to Him. Turning involves changing direction. This is a one-way street and any other way means certain death, forever. You have probably heard, “Well, there are lots of ways to heaven.” Nice thought, but that's not what God said. Our Lord declares, “I am God and there is no other.” We all go in the wrong direction - ALL of us. Maybe you think you are too far down the road and it’s too late. Maybe your sins are so great that a loving God would have nothing to do with you. You would be wrong. Our Lord’s Word promises when we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive our sins and cleans us from all unrighteousness (1 John1:9). So let us turn to Christ and say we are sorry.

Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love, according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions.
Psalm 51:1

Our Lord promises you, me and the whole world what happens when we turn to Him - Salvation! He promises that those who turn to Him will be saved because He is a loving and merciful God.

I didn’t tell my daughter the horrors of turning the wrong way because I want her to stress out, freak out or pass out. Actually quite the opposite - I warned my daughter to turn simply because I don’t want her to be harmed. I love her.

How much more does God love you?

Now you are licensed - licensed to love others because Jesus first loved you.

Prayer:

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
Psalm 51:10

Join us Sunday I can’t wait!
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8
The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully[a] will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

2 Corinthians 9:6-7
