Spring is in the air and we are ready to "March" into our varsity boys' basketball quest for a state championship, into the final phases of construction on our 21st century community learning center, into learning more about economic development in the City of Richmond Heights and how it impacts our schools; and finally we're ready to "March" on the Capitol for equitable funding for public schools. This month's newsletter is loaded with all sorts of videos, headlines and features, so shake off those winter blues and let's spring forward into to action.

Facilities Update
This Monday, March 2nd at 2:00 pm we will have a brief "Topping Out" ceremony as the last beam will go atop our new school that is being constructed. Some of our 6th graders and our 11th graders will attend the ceremony as they represent the students that will be the first class to attend the new school and the first class to graduate from the new school, respectively . We will also have special dignitaries from the community stopping by to celebrate with us. Our beam was signed by students, staff, board members and city council members to forever immortalize the significance of this project to the Richmond Heights Local School District and the community's history.
Edward Nix- Construction Intern
Ozanne Construction company has hired our very own Ed Nix to work as an intern throughout our construction project. Ed is a Richmond Heights senior that is enrolled in Excel TECC program, a career technical consortium serving nine school districts in addition to ours. The other schools in the consortium are Aurora, Beachwood, Chagrin Falls, Mayfield, Orange, Solon, South Euclid-Lyndhurst, West Geauga, and Willoughby-Eastlake. The consortium offers over twenty-five unique programs. Ed is enrolled in the construction program.
Did Someone Say Basketball???
Our 2020 boys' varsity basketball regular season is over, and now it's tournament time. We went undefeated in the Chagrin Valley Conference, and finished with an overall record of 18-4. Our only losses were to big Division I and II teams. We are Division IV for smaller schools. Last year we made it to the Final Four. This year we are hoping to win it all. We know the road won't be easy, but with the community's support, outstanding coaching, and of course our team's incredible athleticism, we have a winning shot! The State Championship Game is Saturday, March 21st at 2:00 p.m. at Ohio State University. Save-the-Date. Sectionals are played at Norton High School (see bracket link) and Regionals are played at The Canton Fieldhouse (check bracket on website TBA). T-Shirts are available for purchase at the high school's main office .
A Rally to Save Our Schools
We would like to thank our School Board President Nneka Slade Jackson. Nneka traveled to Columbus to testify before the 133rd General Assembly's Conference Committee on Senate Bill 9 (School Vouchers). Nneka was joined by our District Treasurer, Cooper Martin.

HERE'S HOW YOU CAN HELP
On Wednesday, March 18, 2020 we will be traveling to the Statehouse in Columbus, Ohio to stand in solidarity with thousands of other parents, teachers, community leaders and those who are vested in public education to support our children's future. We will be wearing the color red to show our unity. If you would like to attend this "Red for Ed" rally with us please contact Supt. Willis via phone at 216-692-8485 or by email: info@richmondheightsschools.org
