LARA to Require Implicit Bias Training for Counselors to Address Racial Disparities
|

Governor Whitmer’s Executive Directive 2020-7 directs the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) to begin developing rules that will require implicit bias training as part of the knowledge and skills necessary for licensure, registration, and renewal of licenses and registrations of health professionals in Michigan. In response to the Governor’s directive, MMHCA has formed an Implicit Bias Task Force, charged with developing robust training that will set the standard for future implicit bias training and training standards in the State of Michigan. Self-Awareness Called MetaFi
MetaFi is a mindful self-awareness app developed by MMHCA member Benjamin Reisterer, LPC (Clinical Director at Mindful Counseling GR in Grand Rapids, MI).
MetaFi is designed to help people establish a mindful self-awareness practice by focusing attention on the present moment emotional, somatic, and situational experience of the user.
Over time, as the user continues to log experiences, they will be able to see patterns and trends in how their body, emotions, and mind react to their surroundings thus deepening their self-awareness and ability to mindfully respond instead of simply reacting.

Alana Brayboy Publishes Autobiography Titled Rescued.
RESCUED is an autobiography about a child horrifically sexually, physically and emotionally abused from ages 5 until 17. This book will reveal how her faith in God rescued her and led her to write this book and share her story.
This is a story that offers hope to victims of abuse with educational tools to break the cycle of abuse and live a life of a survivor with hope and forgiveness.
MMHCA member and author, Alana Brayboy, 42, has a passion to help people break the cycle of abuse.
She is a Clinical Therapist working with Mental Health and Substance Use.
Alana gives seminars to educate about breaking the cycle of abuse and helping victims become survivors living a happy life.
Alana is looking forward to using her book as an educational tool.
