Candidate Spotlight

Rep. Elaine Luria (D-VA)

Rep. Elaine Luria (D-VA) is one of the most endangered Democrats in the House this cycle because of her devotion to uncovering the truth about the January 6th Capitol attack. Now the GOP extreme right and election-deniers want her seat.

With a new Republican-drawn district, Rep. Luria’s seat is in great jeopardy. She narrowly won her race in 2018 by only one point. She is facing an anti-choice, anti-democracy, anti-LGBTQ+ candidate who opposes abortion even in the cases of rape, incest, or life of the mother.

Rep. Luria will be in Chicago for a special JAC event on Thurs., Aug. 25th at 2 pm. Contact info@jacpac.org for more information. Can’t attend? Click here to donate. JAC is urgently trying to raise another $10,000 for Rep. Luria so she can beat back the GOP attacks.

As a retired Navy Commander with 20 years of service, including directing a combat-ready unit of 400 sailors, she understands the importance of protecting our democracy.  That is why Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) appointed Rep. Luria to the House Select Committee to investigate the insurrection.

Rep. Luria knew the political risks of such close involvement in the hearings and her support of Donald Trump’s impeachment. However, paramount to her is protecting the American people and our sacred democratic institutions.

In Congress, Rep. Luria has worked to end gun violence in our communities. She has cosponsored the 2019 Assault Weapons Ban and the Extreme Risk Protection Order Act. She is also a champion for Israel, advocating for strong support of Israel and its sustained relationship with the U.S.

Luria's great-grandfather helped establish a Reform Jewish congregation in Jasper, AL and her mother and grandmother were active in the National Council of Jewish Women, Hadassah, and the Birmingham Jewish Federation.

Rep. Luria first came to JAC’s attention from her cousin Ronnie Hess, a longtime JAC member. JAC has been proud to support her since her first election in 2018.

DONATE NOW. Elaine Luria is on our side. We need her in the House.
