The Sunday we recognize a special offering for Wellroot Family Services. For nearly 150 years, Wellroot has nurtured the feeling of home for Georgia’s most vulnerable children, teens, young adults, and families.
Through your Faith Promise pledge and giving, the mission committee has already given to this special offering of the North Georgia Conference of the UMC. When our church gives to Wellroot on this special Sunday, 100% of the gift provides children and families the power to realize their God-given potential.
If you would like to give an additional gift to Wellroot, please indicate that in the memo line of the check. You can learn more about Wellroot by going to https://wellroot.org.

The Health and Welfare Committee would like to encourage congregants to get their flu shot this fall. It’s extra important this year because of the risk of the severity of COVID-19 symptoms compounded by the flu. For Frequently Asked Questions regarding the flu shot in the 2020-21 flu season, you can go to
There are several local Kroger, Publix, and CVS Pharmacies that can provide you with the flu shot, many times for free.

Disciple Bible Study Coming in 2021
|
|
Rev Gerald has announced that he will begin a Disciple I Bible Study: Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study, in January 2021. This study gives the Old and New Testaments equal time, emphasizing the wholeness of the Bible as a revelation of God. Disciple draws upon the work of scholars, the personal Bible reading and study of the participant, and dynamic group discussion to aid understanding of the Bible.
The study will last 34 weeks and will begin with the Old Testament, break for the summer, and start the fall with the New Testament. Workbooks will be ordered at the end of this year for those interested. Additional information will be provided in December. If you would like to sign up or have questions, please contact Stephanie Shanholtzer at sshanholtzer@tfumc.org.

God is closer than the air we breathe. Grounded in scripture and Christian tradition, David Muyskens’ book, Sacred Breath, walks you through the practice of Centering Prayer and helps you breathe in deeply the presence of God.
If you’re interested, please join us on September 22 at 7:30 pm via Zoom for an organizational meeting. This will be a sharing group with the mutual goal of building our individual devotional life and sharing the insights and practices that we find helpful during this part of our journey.

“For such a time as this” the Music and Arts Ministry at Tucker First UMC is committed to continue making music that honors and worships God. We just have to do it differently!
For the past several months, Tom Moore, Tucker First Director of Music & Arts, has shared with many of our musicians that we need not focus on what we can’t do, but on what we can do! When we think and act creatively, there’s a lot that we can do together. Here are some opportunities that might interest you:
- Be a part of a virtual choir!
- Sing as part of a small ensemble (3-4 people)
- Play or sing in The Table worship - modern worship
- Help sing songs for Sunday morning videos
- Participate as a musician in the traditional worship videos
- Play handbells!
To find out more about our Music and Arts Ministry and ways to participate, click on the Soli Deo Gloria graphic above or contact Tom Moore, Director of Music & Arts at tom_moore@tfumc.org.

No one person, congregation, or denomination can do everything. Each of us can do something to help in the fight! According to the CDC, one in four girls and one in six boys will be sexually exploited by age eighteen. Please join Tucker First UMC, along with Street Grace, for an online "Night of Awareness,” on Tuesday, September 29 from 5:30 pm-6:30 pm.
This free program will focus on how you can help eradicate the commercial sexual exploitation of children in our communities. Local law enforcement will provide updates and there will be an opportunity for questions and answers. Street Grace is a faith-driven organization collaborating with faith, business and community leaders as well as providing a comprehensive path to end the sexual exploitation of minors.

Virtual Mental Health Fair
|
|
As part of an ongoing effort to provide assistance and resources to those in crisis, the DeKalb County Police Department will host a virtual mental health fair next week.
The free event will take place Wednesday from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm and will feature a discussion from the county’s Mental Health Roundtable. The roundtable, created by DeKalb CEO Michael Thurmond in 2017, was formed after a police shootout killed Quintas Harris, a veteran with mental illness.
Thurmond will give a speech to open the event, and the roundtable discussion will be moderated by former Channel 2 Action News anchor Monica Pearson. Representatives from the National Association of Mental Health, the DeKalb Crisis Center’s Mobile Crisis Service and several other organizations will also be present.
To register or find out more information, please click on the police logo.
