SUCCESSFUL 2020 HOLIDAY SHOP
HELPING ALMOST 12,000 NEIGHBORS
Almost 12,000 low-income Johnson County neighbors were helped through the Holiday Shop despite a pandemic. The Shop operations were very different due to the pandemic. Planning started in March of 2020. The Board, the team leaders and many volunteers had input into the plan which slowly evolved over time. Thank you to all the volunteers who provided input into the pandemic Shop plan, purchased merchandise, lead and/or served on a team, volunteered throughout the year and/or at the Holiday Shop, and/or otherwise performed a volunteer function in 2020. Our clients told us how important it was to have holiday gifts for their children, to have food on the table, to have winter coats for their kids, and to have personal hygiene products such as laundry detergent, dental products, shampoo and more.

Gerner Family
The Johnson County Christmas Bureau thanks the entire Gerner family for their over 20 years of service running the Personal Care Department. Three generations of their family have volunteered, starting with Jim and Marj Gerner.
Jim Gerner was a former board member and participated on many committees, including budget, hiring, and planning. Always a pleasure to work with, he had a calm and pleasant demeanor and had much to contribute to any discussion. Jim always wore a smile and had a helpful attitude toward the many people that came and also for his fellow volunteers. He was instrumental in securing many donations, especially from the Kimberly-Clark company, and worked hard to create the best selection of items possible. The Gerner family was voted by the membership as Volunteers of the Year for 2015-2016.
Eventually, Andrea Cloughley (their daughter) took over running the department. Her sister, Jennifer Noble, joined her as co-chair. The Gerner family did an awesome job for many years and our clients really appreciated the merchandise they received from this department. The following are some of the family members who served at the Holiday Shop: Jim and Marj Gerner; Andrea, Dennis, Joe and Justin Cloughley; Jenn, Jeff and Austin Noble; Jeff, Annette, Samantha and Sarah Gerner; Jon, Leslie, Wyn and Sylvie Gerner; and Alyssa and Ben Coomes.
Thank you Gerner family for your
many contributions to the JCCB.

Personal Care Seeking New Team Leaders
We are looking for new team leaders for the personal care department. This department distributes items such as laundry detergent, diapers, dental hygiene, personal care products and more. The team leaders lead a team that: shops for merchandise, inventories and sorts donations and what they purchase; sets up the department; and supervises the department during Shop in December. We can provide lots of information on the products distributed in the past and how the department has been run in the past. If you are interested or know of anyone who might be interested please let us know.
