Midtown Moving Forward: ENN

Last night, the Midtown Early Neighborhood Notification (ENN) meeting was held on proposed permanent land uses for the site master plan, rezoning, general plan amendment, and LINC overlay amendment of the 64-acre midtown property. The ENN provided an overview of the land use application for the proposed master plan and land zoning, based on public priorities identified over the course of the robust Midtown community engagement campaign. Changing the zoning from residential to commercial is the first required step in achieving the long-term goals, which include:

  • a mixed-use center with new homes
  • Affordable Housing
  • jobs and creative enterprises
  • public open spaces
  • the expansion of film production
  • green and sustainable building

The 30-min presentation was followed by an extensive Q & A session with the participants. View the recording of the meeting and presentation here; and stay tuned for more news about Midtown Moving Forward as summer continues.

Best in the West

Travel + Leisure has just released their "Best Cities in the United States" rankings for 2022, and Santa Fe placed third out of 15. We're the only city in the Western U.S. to make the list!

Ready for Stormwater

The Brother's Lane Rain Garden and Camino Escondido Stilling Basins are officially open for "business" – a.k.a., ready to collect, slow down, and filter stormwater runoff as it makes its way into the Santa Fe River. The rain garden also supports pollinator-friendly plants that provide habitats for native bees. Thanks to the Public Works Department, the Santa Fe Watershed Association, Watershed West, and The Raincatcher Inc., for your efforts!

Swim Reservations at GCCC

The Recreation Division has introduced online reservations for Leisure/Recreation Swim Sessions at the Chavez Center! The sign-up form goes live at 8 a.m. each day for reservations on the same day. Walk-ins will still be accepted if spots are available, but reserving online is encouraged to secure your spot and streamline the process. Residents can also call 505-955-4056 or 505-955-4067 for help or to register. (Bicentennial Pool leisure swim sessions are first-come, first-served.)

Volunteers Make a Difference

We wanted to give a shout-out to our awesome volunteers from the Student Life Camp! These hard-working folks partner with our Parks Division during the summer to complete volunteer projects in Santa Fe – this time, they tackled weeding, brush clearing, and general cleanup at Dawson, Ashbaugh, and Alto Parks. Parks Project Specialist Jessie Benavidez, coordinator of the annual partnership, brought them all ice-cold popsicles in thanks after a recent work day. Kudos, volunteers!

Join the Public Utilities Team

The Public Utilities Department (PUD) is holding a Rapid Hiring Event on Saturday, July 30, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at GCCC. Human Resources and PUD staff will be on-site to help with applications and conduct on-the-spot interviews. You can even apply in advance online for rapid-hire-eligible openings and go straight to the interview line at the event if you qualify! (There's also a $1,000 hiring bonus in effect for new City of Santa Fe employees.)

There's a lot going on in the City Different!
