#26: Using the Clipping Tool

As we navigate through our new normal of virtual learning and living at a distance, we understand our schools are facing many new challenges. Entourage is committed to making your yearbook process as simple and easy as possible with the use of new resources and technology!

Now that we are distancing, you may find that it's tough to gather photos where people are in groups or posing together. Luckily Entourage has a great tool that you can use to remove backgrounds from your photos and place kids together on a page!

In this hint you will learn how to use the clipping tool to give your pages a more professional and dynamic look.

To remove a background using the clipping tool, first open any page in the designer.

Place the photo you'd like to use then select the clip button from the Quick Menu pictured right.
This will bring up the clipping tool window. It will automatically 'Auto-Clip' but you can set this off if it does not look acceptable, by unclicking the Auto Clip button pictured below:
To manually clip, select the green tool in the top left hand corner. Draw over the parts of the photo you want to keep. You don't have to be precise, in fact it often works better if you give it a vague idea of what to keep.

Use the red tool in the top left to select the background or portion you'd like to remove. You will see the projected result on the right side of the screen, as pictured below.

Click 'Done' when you want to complete your selection.




The result is a clipped out image that you can layer over backgrounds and clip art for a cool effect!
A Few Tips:

✱ Don't worry about messing up, you can always un-do your clip and start over. The software won't get rid of your original image.

✱ Not every photo works well for the clipping tool, the best images have a distinct color difference between the subject and the background like the image used in the above example.
