21 September 2020 | Chartiers Valley Intermediate School
Dear IS Families,

We are excited to welcome back Prevention Specialist, Jenea Edwards, to CVIS!  Ms. Edwards joins us once a week through our partnership with the University of Pittsburgh’s program Maximizing Adolescent Potentials (MAPS).  Ms. Edwards will be applying social emotional learning in the form of classroom lessons again this year.  Throughout the school year, every class will participate in Second Step lessons with Ms. Edwards.  The Second Step Program is a research-based social emotional learning curriculum.  Social emotional learning teaches children techniques to gain confidence, set goals, make better decisions, collaborate with others in work and play, and navigate the world more effectively.

Chartiers Valley School District is now offering FREE breakfast and FREE lunch to every student, every school day. This includes to-go meals for students learning virtually.  To-go meals for virtual days (both CV Cyber and Hybrid) must be ordered using this Google Form. Orders must be placed 24 hours in advance and picked up at the following times:

  • CV Cyber Students can pick up to-go meals on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 am -12:00 noon at the High School.
  • Hybrid students with last names beginning in A-K can pick up meals for their remote days at the end of the day each Tuesday before leaving school.
  • Hybrid students with last names beginning in L-Z can pick up their to-go meals each Thursday before going home.

At this time, the free meals for all students will only run until December 31, 2020, at which time meal pay statuses will return to Paid, Free, or Reduced rates based on qualifications. Be sure to submit your free/reduced meal applications as soon as possible to avoid any gap in benefits. Applications can be found on the District website

Have a great week!
Sincerely,

Mrs. Julie Franczyk, Principal
Mr. Peter Schintz, Assistant Principal

Library News
If you found a CVIS library book at home, please send it in with your child to return or drop it off at the IS main office. There are still over 400 library books from the 2019-2020 school year that have not been returned. We have some great ideas for getting books in the hands of kids, but we need your help getting those books back in the library first!

We know how exciting birthdays are for children. However, due to COVID-19 restrictions we are unable to allow students to distribute any items for birthdays or other occasions.
